Miniput 2024

Miniput, the Barcelona Quality Television Show reveals the complete programming of its 31st edition, which this year will be held on Friday, November 7 at the CCCB Theater in Barcelona, ​​within the activities of Serielizados PRO.

As always, the Exhibition maintains its format marathon and will offer debates and screenings for twelve hours straight, between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., with an international selection of the most innovative, provocative, educational and public service-oriented television programs and formats of the year, among the best that could be seen in the latest edition of the INPUT (International Public Television Screening Conference).

As always, the Exhibition, organized by Miniput, is organized by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), Televisió de Catalunya, RTVE Catalunya, betevé and the Xarxa de Televisions Locals, maintaining its marathon format and will offer debates and screenings for twelve hours straight, between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., with an international selection of the most innovative, provocative, educational and public service-oriented television programs and formats of the year, among the best that could be seen in the latest edition of the INPUT (International Public Television Screening Conference).

Miniput 2025 will offer 18 content (including programs, documentaries, fiction series or social media capsules) from countries such as Mexico, Taiwan, Japan, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Finland or Canada.

In this edition, Miniput focuses especially on how the different tools of Artificial Intelligence in television formats. Thus, it will host a round table on AI on Catalan television with the participation of Alan Valverde, AI expert graphic artist in the program It's Happening, produced by Minoria Absoluta; Michael Garcia, head of post-production at Gestmusic – Operation Triumph; Dani Caneiro, director of R&D+i content and executive producer of the production company Una Question, responsible for the program Any More Questions?; y Miquel Herrada, chief of operations of the XAL. The table will be moderated by Mariola Dinarès.

Around this same theme, there will also be a international case study from the program Shaped by History, a pioneering format from DR, Danish public television, which uses Artificial Intelligence tools to recreate the historical conditions and ancestors of its guests. It will have the participation of Lisbeth Langwadt, head of culture and factuals at DR. A special session will also be offered with Kåre V. Poulsen (Producer and manager of interactive, cross platform projects, DR; Consultant and producer, SVT) and the screening of the Finnish documentary AI Adrian to the Rescue, about a robot made from recycled parts that helps a small town after a major local company goes bankrupt.

Emerging talent

Miniput will dedicate a block on democracy with the projection of two proposals that deal with this topic. On the one hand, the educational entertainment program First Choice (Belgium), in which 150 students directly question three politicians. And, on the other, Pointer Factcheck (Netherlands), a political analysis format focused on verifying claims by politicians and viral influencers about immigration, climate and EU institutions.

Another notable session of the 31st Miniput will be the special debate dedicated to promotion of emerging talent on public television. Representatives of public television stations in Barcelona, ​​Euskadi and the Netherlands will explain what programs they have to promote this talent. They will participate Georgina Ferri, director of betéve; Yassin Karmoudi, coordinator of the Talent Fund of the NPO (Dutch public television); and Gorka García Peral, program and artistic director at EITB.

Gender, communication and Internet languages

The discourse around identity and gender will be another of the featured topics of the Miniput. Thus, the documentaries will be projected Alphas (Canada), on masculine identity in the digital age based on the fact that more and more young people embrace ideological conservatism, and Drag In Me (Taiwan), a journey of personal exploration in which a filmmaker ends up exploring his own drag identity.

They will also be presented Wingman (Denmark), about the new forms of communication of a young man with cerebral palsy; Hokkai Douga Block No. 1000 (Japan), about the last days of a century-old building; Magic Moves (Germany), about magic as a therapeutic tool; and My Unseen Story (Belgium), a moving series about ten children who share deeply personal experiences: from growing up with deaf parents or in foster families to their journeys as refugees.

Likewise, there will be a section dedicated to applied Internet languages, in which the following productions can be seen: Untitled 3000 (Germany), a TikTok channel that brings art to young audiences unfamiliar with the classical canon; Ramadan Bites (Netherlands), a social media capsule included in a digital comedy channel that offers daily sketches, monologues, musical parodies and collaborations with influencers linked to the Islamic community; and Alharich_S01 (Finland), a documentary series presented by the charismatic YouTuber Alharith Obaid, which connects with Finnish youth through unfiltered conversations on topics such as addictions, national defense and rural life.

The formats will also be projected For Once (Canada), a talk show that breaks the mold of the usual talk shows by inviting well-known people from the Canadian media to chat without a script with interviewers who have a personal connection with them (friends, colleagues, admirers); and Let’s Talk About It! (Japan), a playful and informative program that explores sexuality from historical, cultural and biological perspectives.

Serialized – Barcelona Series Festival

To close the marathon day, Miniput will screen three series that are also part of this year's programming for the Serializados – Barcelona Series Festival. Thus, it will be released The Black Swan (Denmark), a documentary series about a former criminal gang lawyer who infiltrates the world of Danish organized crime, with the online presence of Mads Brügger, director of the series, who will be interviewed by the journalist Samantha Villar. They will also be projected Changing Rooms (Vestiaires) (Canada), a fictional series set in a swimming club for people with disabilities; and The wounded years (Mexico), an emotional historical drama about social repression in the country between the 1950s and 1980s, which combines fiction, archival material and real testimonies. They will attend the session virtually Fritz Glockner, creator and author of the original book, and Sergio Muñoz, producer of the series, who will be interviewed by screenwriter CArmen Fernandez Villalba.
