TVU Networks introduces 5G TVU RPS 5G, its major release for NAB 2023
TVU will showcase at NAB 2023 the new TVU RPS One, an uplink transmission unit that combines multi-camera synchronisation and 5G connectivity.
TVU RPS One, which will be unveiled at NAB 2023, features the traditional multi-camera encoding and streaming capabilities of the transmission units by integrating six sub-6 Ghz 5G modems. However, in combination with TVU’s cloud-based live production platform or TVU RPS encoders, RPS One is capable of delivering an end-to-end live video production solution that is cloud-based or on-premise.
RPS One’s ability to stream wirelessly to the cloud and to an on-prem decoder simultaneously allows production teams to create different programming using the same sources or set up a duplicate production environment for backup purposes. Paul Shen, CEO of TVU Networks, provides more detail on how this product differentiates itself from the rest of its portfolio: “We’ve combined RPS’s power of fully synchronized multi-camera feeds at sub-second latency with the portability, 4K HDR quality, speed, and real-time wireless streaming capabilities of TVU One. RPS One equips content creators with everything they need for faster, more efficient, and more reliable workflows from anywhere. We’re excited to demonstrate RPS One’s capabilities to NAB attendees, and we believe they’ll be impressed with its speed and connectivity.”
TVU RPS One features a 5G MIMO antenna array that “ensures uninterrupted operation” of all embedded 5G modems at maximum performance simultaneously. In addition, the RPS One’s dual WiFi modules, equipped with MIMO antennas, allow local device connectivity and multiple networks to be available simultaneously.
RPS One has four 3G-SDI inputs that support HDR 1080P/1080i/720p remote production. It also supports up to 16 channels of embedded audio (SDI) and up to 8 channels of embedded audio (HDMI), as well as a single low-latency return video source from an SDI or IP input on any TVU transceiver or TVU Cloud service, allowing “any source” routing. Similarly, RPS One simultaneously aggregates up to 12 data connections, including internal/external mobile, WiFi, Ethernet, IP microwave, satellite (Ka/Ku/BGAN/Starlink) and more. In addition to modems, the system, which will be on display at NAB 2023, integrates integrated 2.4/5GHz WiFi and four USB connections for external modem connections.
