ROE Visual - Disguise - Tokyo 2020

ROE Visualdisguise are strengthening their partnership to pool their technologies to expand the reach of virtual production studios and xR workrooms.

Through this partnership, ROE Visual’s LED solutions will drive the expansion of disguise offices around the world with immediate effect, including disguise xR stages and several “innovation hubs” to be launched in Beijing, Seoul, New Zealand and Hong Kong by the end of 2021. Similarly, disguise will employ its xR workflow, including vx media servers and range of rx render nodes, to manage ROE Visual showrooms in the Netherlands, the United States and Japan, a project to be launched in the latter months of 2021.

Through this joint collaboration and partnership, the two companies plan to leverage each other’s expertise, innovations and customer feedback to refine and guide their respective product roadmaps and ensure that customers have “the highest quality technology.”

xR workflow

In 2020, disguise launched its xR workflow, which enables creative and technical teams to render photorealistic graphics content from engines such as Unreal Engine on LED surfaces developed by companies such as ROE Visual. With the help of camera tracking technology, these graphics can be displayed on-camera as real-time 3D photorealistic environments that immerse actors, performers, presenters and the audience. This disguise and ROE Visual technology has many use cases, with the most common being in television broadcasts, films, fixed installations, and corporate and entertainment events.

Disguise technology powers more than 300 xR scenarios in more than 45 countries, many of them ROE Visual led. Both ROE Visual and disguise workflows have been integral to hundreds of immersive, real-time productions around the world, including TV Azteca’s coverage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Billie Eilish’s live concert Where Do We Go, the League of Legends World Championship 2020 esports event, Nissan’s Thrill commercial, Walmart’s 2021 YBM and ICM virtual events, Kaskade’s Fortnite and Rocket League hybrid concert, and Katy Perry’s iconic performance at the 2020 American Idol finale.

Collaboration since 2017

The partnership between disguise and ROE Visual dates back to 2017, when disguise began its research and development on xR workflows. Since then, disguise’s xR scenarios in its London and Los Angeles offices have exclusively used ROE Visual’s LED volumes.

Fernando Küfer, CEO of disguise, believes that “it will be exciting to see what the disguise-ROE Visual partnership will bring to the worldwide creative community and our virtual production, broadcast, corporate and education customers.” On the other hand, Grace Kuo, sales director at ROE Visual, says she is delighted with the collaboration with disguise and notes that “this partnership is beneficial to both companies and, more importantly, for our global user community.”

“We believe the partnership will help to develop virtual production technology and bring it to a higher level,” concludes Kuo.
