Miguel Motos, director of the Simulation and Virtual Reality area at Ingevideo, has given a practical workshop on motion capture to students of the master's degree in digital cinematography at the ECAM in Madrid.

The students of the Master in Digital Cinematography of the School of Cinematography of the Community of Madrid (ECAM) have discovered the secrets of motion capture thanks to a practical workshop organized by Ingevideo and taught by Miguel Motos, director of the Simulation and Virtual Reality area.

In this workshop, the students learned to assemble a set with 12 mini cameras equipped with infrared, taking into account all the necessary parameters, and they recorded a small scene with the participation of a student who volunteered to wear a special suit covered by 34 motion sensors.

“Our goal has always been to offer centers like ECAM the option to introduce their students to the latest technology in Motion mapping and virtual reality systems, in an environment in which they actively participate in WorkShop-type sessions and not as mere passive spectators,” Miguel Motos assured.

The Optitrack systems, used in this workshop, have been used to capture the movements of actors and their subsequent creation of special effects among other films in Snow White and the Huntsman, Underworld o Avatar.

To ensure full compatibility with a variety of production lines, Optitrack has been designed for interoperability with marker-based tracking of rigid bodies and data flow from Autodesk MotionBuilder or Autodesk Maya.

This tool makes it available to directors, animation/special effects managers and cinematographers to recreate virtual worlds in a fraction of the time it takes to frame a single camera shot with more natural results.
