Shape: The new focal study monitors that go beyond the curve

Conceived for demanding environments, they combine an ingenious design, a wide range of focal technologies and a varied setting option to be optimized depending on the acoustics of our listening room.

In his continuous career for offering solutions in innovative study monitors, Focal He has completely rethink the concept of nearby field monitors, as demonstrated by his new Shape line. Recently launched in Frankfurt Musikmesse, these three Shape 40, Shape 50 and Shape 65 models, totally made in France, include double passive radiators and new Woofers and Tweeters. Conceived for demanding environments, they combine an ingenious design, a wide range of focal technologies and a varied setting option to be optimized depending on the acoustics of our listening room. Simultaneously to this focal launch, the series of CMS monitors, launched in 2008.

These three monitors are immediately recognized thanks to their unique design. In fact, the upper and frontal part are presented in walnut wood finish. This presentation is the perfect design complement for its new Flax cones, as with higher series models.

New Woofers

The development of drivers technologies is part of Focal DNA. The new flax sandwich cones are composed of two materials: fiberglass and linen fiber. Combined as a sandwich- a layer of linen fiber is between two layers of fiberglass- they offer high rigidity, incredibly lightweight weight and low elasticity. Finally, together with its cellulose composition, it guarantees these cones an excellent damping. These new materials provide an important improvement with respect to the Polyglass cones of their cms predecessors.

Inverted dome tweeter

Focal has improved its famous Tweeter inverted aluminum-magnesium dome with two mechanical innovations: the new M-Shaped Tweeter and a dedicated suspensor, such as the one used in the tweeters of the SM6 and SM9 lines. which translates into greater flexibility when the location of the monitors for their listening. Mechanically speaking, the M Shaped tweeter provides greater rigidity, reducing even more, possible distortions. In addition to this, the Poron suspensor allows a much more linear response curve below 6KHz. Finally, the fallen has been designed to provide an equal directivity both horizontally and vertically.

Passive double radiator

The double passive radiator is an ingenious solution that allows combining, in the same monitor, a compact enclosure with a wide response at low frequencies and also facilitates a comfortable listening location according to the characteristics of our study. In fact, when the systems with Bass Replex ports fulfill their limits in terms of integration (a long enough port is required to coincide with the surface), the passive radiator becomes the ideal solution. In addition, due to their low frequency of tune, it allows monitors to be placed very close to a wall.

Finally, note that all models include class AB amplification to provide optimal control throughout the dynamic audio signal range. Each monitor carries a Shelving filter for high and low frequencies. The crossover at 160 Hz (+/- 3 dB) allows the correction of parasitic reflections due to the collation of the monitors on a table of mixtures or reverberant areas. They are also equipped with an adjustable step-high filter.

All Shape monitors are presented with four decapo tips finished in rubber to improve insulation with the contact surface. They also include two protective grilles that do not need tools to be withdrawn.

The ideal solution for very close field listening, from 60 cm, and offers an amazing response in serious.

Shape 50

The most versatile monitor. It can be used in listening from 80 cm and provides an extensive response in low frequencies even in small rooms.

Shape 65

Shape line reference. Although it is intended for nearby listening, this monitor allows extraordinary monitoring quality throughout the frequency spectrum.
