Yamaha to take over Steinberg's hardware business
As part of a group-wide product development restructuring, Yamaha y Steinberg announce that Yamaha will take over Steinberg's hardware business, while Steinberg's hardware products will be marketed under the Yamaha brand.
This means that going forward, Steinberg will focus exclusively on software development and sales, with the goal of providing users with a refined and integrated product experience. Steinberg joined the Yamaha group in 2005, and the companies' first jointly developed hardware products were launched in 2008.
Since then, Steinberg has consistently offered hardware solutions for all types of users, from new creators to professional studios, which have been enthusiastically received by users around the world. These include the UR series, UR-C, UR-RT series and the ultra-portable IXO series audio interfaces.
Yamaha will now handle the development and sales of these hardware products, allowing both companies to focus on their respective strengths: Yamaha in global hardware design, manufacturing and distribution of high quality, and Steinberg in creating world-class music and audio software. This division of functions will ensure that each company can maximize its experience and resources, while continuing to collaborate closely as part of the same group.
Following the reorganization, the Steinberg-branded IXO12, IXO22, UR22C and UR44C audio interfaces will be reintroduced under the Yamaha brand as UR12MK3, UR22MK3, URX22C and URX44C, respectively. Other Steinberg-branded audio interfaces will be phased out.
Takatsuna Maeda, senior general manager of Yamaha's consumer and creator audio division,. highlights that "Steinberg brand hardware products have been developed and manufactured by Yamaha for a long time. This brand transition marks a new stage in which both companies can focus on their strengths to offer reliable and perfectly connected solutions, adapted to today's creators."
