Sony PWS-4500

Euro Media Group (EMG) has installed two PWS-4500 playback and ingest servers from Sony as part of its plan to diversify the current offering of recording and slow motion solutions.

Having been successfully used for original UHD HDR recording of concerts and high-profile events, the Sony PWS-4500 will be used on UK-based EMG's CTV mobile unit for the production of upcoming 4K/UHD events.

Sony PWS-4500Ronald Meyvisch, CTO of EMG, notes that "over the last decade, we have focused too much on a single solution for the reproduction of live sporting events and the digitization of content. Although we have been satisfied with the use of our current servers and will continue to use them, we know that there are currently tools with superior performance capabilities, adaptable to the current workflow that our customers demand. We consider it our responsibility to explore and employ these new alternatives in different types of productions in order to understand their strengths and explain them to our clients.”

At NAB 2017, Sony announced several improvements to the current features of the PWS-4500. These included the PWS-110CM content management station, which allows users to easily and efficiently search for content that can be transferred for seamless delivery.

Norbert Paquet, head of strategic marketing at Sony Professional Solutions Europe, underlines that "the PWS-4500 meets the needs of companies like Euro Media Group, which are looking for a robust, flexible and versatile server solution for UHD productions, but who also need to continue producing content in HD. We are delighted to work through this extensive collaboration to create a production platform with future technology accepted by operators, technicians and producers."

Together with Sony, EMG has established an internal training program on the new equipment to allow both field teams and customers to train independently on the latest technologies and how they operate. Before the end of the year, EMG intends to expand the use of the PWS-4500 to other companies in the group.
