Lawo mc236 - Cinema Bellevaux

The Lawo mc²36 mixing console brings digital technology to Cinéma Bellevaux, a cinema, music and performing arts venue in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Gwenaël Grossfeld, owner of this 80-seat theater opened in 1959, took advantage of the downtime caused by the Covid-19 to make technical improvements. Grossfeld needed a “digital audio console that could drive the cinema’s 22-speaker audio system, and also accommodate a lot of audio sources”. However, he had not used a digital console; only analog.

Close references and support from Swiss integrator SLG Broadcast led him to opt for the 16-fader mc²36, a “very intuitive to operate” console that is compatible with the d&b Soundscape system. The Lawo mc²36’s main features include an I/O capacity of 864 channels, up to 256 channels of audio processing and native compatibility with ST2110, AES67, Ravenna and Ember+. The installation would be completed with two Lawo A__mic8 I/O units.

The owner of the theater is completely satisfied with the acquisition: . “Our objective is to transform movies from being on-screen art with musical support into an immersive experience of film, lighting, sounds and music in a unique venue. Lawo and SLG understood our goals and found the right solutions.”

“Ironically, we had to postpone our re-opening until October, but not due to sound issues — the delivery of the screen, of all things, was delayed!” concludes Grossfeld.
