Lawo - Crystal - Royal Media Services

Once again, the Lawo audio over IP technology is at the heart of an equipment renewal at Kenyan broadcaster Royal Media Services.

Following the integration of Lawo mixing consoles and IP infrastructure solutions in other Royal Media Services (RMS) radio stations, the Kenyan company has decided to install a 12-fader Crystal console in another of its studios: Radio Citizen, located in Nairobi. The project management and installation was carried out by BYCE Broadcast, which specialises in Lawo systems.

RMS, Lawo and BYCE Broadcast began their relationship in 2017, with the installation of their first Lawo mixing console. The Crystal is currently in service at Radio Citizen, Ramogi FM, Inooro FM and HOT96, all owned by Royal Media Services and based in Nairobi. The Crystal consoles base their network connection on Ravenna and AES67 standards, while using the open source Ember+ remote control protocol for automation management. Similarly, these consoles, with a “clean and intuitive” design, have advanced features such as AutoMix hands-free mixing and AutoGain microphone gain control. In addition, Crystal comes standard with Lawo Vistool GUI creation software, which provides customisable touch controls.

Cynthia Odari, business development manager at BYCE Broadcast, appreciates the latest integration of Lawo solutions at Royal Media Services: “It is exciting to watch as Royal Media Services sets the pace for the adoption of broadcast IP technology in Kenya. MS were our very first client in Kenya, and we thank them for their continuing trust in us, and in Lawo, a decision which keeps proving to be right!”
