Altamira in three dimensions
Morena Films is preparing a 3D film about the caves directed by José Luis López Linares.
The Altamira caves, located in Santillana del Mar (Cantabria) and considered a world reference in Upper Paleolithic cave painting, will be recreated in 3D in a project that has the support of the Department of Culture of the Government of Cantabria, the Altamira Museum and the Marcelino Botín Foundation.
Filming in 3D under the direction of López Linares will begin in September and will be called The Master of Altamira. Morena Films assures that it aims to be an innovative audiovisual work that narrates in a combination of fiction and documentary three plots that converge at the same point, the spectacular masterpiece of prehistoric art declared a World Heritage Site.
Through three fictional plots starring: the master who painted it (played by Carlos Bardem), the archaeologist who discovered it and two scientists who work in the caves today, this production aims to bring the viewer closer than ever before to an exciting, new and enriching experience.
The decision to shoot the film in 3 dimensions allows us to go further and make this film an unparalleled historical document in which the viewer will be able to understand first-hand why these caves are so special, bringing them closer to the art of the paintings as if they were in the cave itself.
To the possibility of filming in the caves closed to the public, the production company will add scenes, many of them in 3D recreation, that will capture the life of our ancestors with spectacular images of action (hunting, combat, daily life) and nature (bison, bears, horses, deer that served as inspiration for the master).
The Master of Altamira It will transcend the classic distribution to access the latest 3-dimensional technology theaters and IMAX theaters where the experience for the viewer will truly be a spectacle.
