The Audiovisual Service of the University of Barcelona records a professional 3D video with the Sony PMW-TD300 camcorder.

Sony has recently collaborated with the University of Barcelona in the development of a three-dimensional promotional video. The production was carried out by the Audiovisual Service of the University of Barcelona with the voluntary contribution of its staff and the Sony PMW-TD300 camcorder was used.

With the desire to experiment with new technologies, the Audiovisual Service of the University of Barcelona recorded this video over the course of a week, during the month of October 2011, with a camera belonging to Sony's mid-range 3D camcorder segment.

The objective of the video titled The three dimensions of the UB is to offer an innovative and creative vision of the University to promote the projection of this institution at the national and international level.

The content of the video takes a tour of about six minutes through different faculties and centers of the University of Barcelona, to show the rich architectural, historical and human heritage of the institution. It is structured in three sections: “Excellence-Excellence in knowledge”, “University life” and “A history of 560 years”.

Thanks to the high definition 3D monitors and polarized glasses, more than 1000 people in different faculties of the University of Barcelona have been able to see the video.

According to a spokesperson for the University of Barcelona, “the camcorder used, the Sony PMW-TD300 model, is very easy and comfortable to use, it is simple and intuitive to find the technical parameters within the menus and it has offered us a very good final image quality.”

Part of the easy handling when recording in 3D is thanks to the fact that the camera operator does not need glasses to monitor the 3D image, since the viewer itself allows three-dimensional visualization directly.

Álvaro Ortiz, product specialist for Sony's Entry Level Production range for Southern Europe, commented that “the PMW-TD300 camcorder is ideal for 3D recordings, both for ENGs and for videographers and professional users as it allows them to have the agility of a light shoulder camcorder, with the quality and versatility of a half-inch triple dual sensor with high quality lenses, and with the widely known XDCAM workflow. “EX.”
