Presentación informe macrosector TIC 2009According to the “2009 Report on the Spanish ICT macro sector” prepared by ASIMELEC, this sector obtained a business volume of 77,431.5 million euros during 2008, which means a growth of 0.1%, compared to the 77,335.4 million euros achieved in 2007. The ASIMELEC report, the first of its kind carried out by the Employers' Association, and which will be annual, covers the consumer electronics sectors; services and equipment telecommunications; Internet services; audiovisual services and products; digital content; computer hardware; and, finally, computer software and services. According to the Report, this macro sector already contributes 7.07% to the Spanish GDP, generates more than 350,000 direct jobs, and estimates indirect jobs at several million.

The ASIMELEC report highlights that, despite the difficult economic scenario, the ICT macro sector still remains globally positive, which demonstrates its greater strength with respect to other sectors of activity more severely affected by the crisis. However, ASIMELEC warns that this strength has not been immune to the worsening of the situation, as occurred in the last quarter of 2008, and as the data for the first quarter of 2009 seem to demonstrate.

According to this ASIMELEC report, during 2008, the ICT macro sector has presented an uneven evolution. Thus, and according to it, the greatest dynamism has corresponded to the computer software segment, with 2,985.7 million euros invoiced and a growth of 7.9%, compared to 2007. The second position, in terms of growth, corresponds to computer services, which have grown by 7.1% and amounted to a business volume of 10,554.8 million euros; and, in third and fourth position, the digital content (2,515 million euros) and telecommunications services (36,933 million euros), with growth of 2.7% and 0.4%, respectively.

Regarding the segments that have suffered falls, consumer electronics stands out with a decrease of 11% compared to 2007, and a turnover of 4,649.4 million euros, followed by the telecommunications equipment sector, (6,328 million euros), with a negative growth of 6.4%. The rest of the sectors (audiovisual services and computer equipment) obtained turnover of 7,068 million euros (-0.5%) and 6,396.8 million euros (-0.1%), respectively, in 2008.

According to this first ASIMELEC report on the evolution of the ICT sector in our country, the distribution between the different segments that make up the ICT macro sector shows the telecommunications services sector as the market with the greatest weight, with 47.7% of it. Computer services also maintain an important weight, contributing 13.6% to the total figure for the macro sector. Among the remaining sectors, the contribution of computer equipment, telecommunications equipment and audiovisual services should also be highlighted, all with percentages around 8%. The remaining sectors, digital content, consumer electronics and computer software, contribute percentages of around 5%.
