Pay TV subscribers registered an increase of 8.1% year-on-year, reaching 6.6 million, although they registered a decrease of 80,000 subscribers compared to the previous quarter. IP TV was the majority option with 4.2 million subscribers.

The income of the retail services reached 6,342 million euros in the second quarter of 2018 according to statistical data from the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC), with an increase of 1.6% compared to the same quarter of 2017. Mobile broadband services and audiovisual services grew again this quarter.

The income of the audiovisual services stood at 1,170 million euros, with a year-on-year increase of 4.1%.

The Pay television, with 555 million, rose 6.4%, and, to a lesser extent, free-to-air television did so, with 506 million and 0.8% growth.

For their part, subscribers to Pay television recorded an increase of 8.1% year-on-year, standing at 6.6 million, although they recorded a decline of 80 thousand subscribers compared to the previous quarter. IP TV was the majority option with 4.2 million subscribers.

Packaged offers that include pay television registered a new record with almost 6 million, of which 5.7 million had contracted the five-fold package.

The three main Telecommunications operators accounted for 77.3% of retail revenues this quarters of the sector, a percentage somewhat lower than the same period in 2017 (78.6%). The Más Móvil group, which includes Más Móvil, Yoigo, Pepephone, The retail income of Movistar and Orange also rose, although very moderately, and kept their shares practically stable.

The total of NGA installed accesses or access to new generation networks – which allow very high-speed connections – reached 52.4 million, 18.4% more than a year ago. The accesses that grew the most were those corresponding to fiber to the home (FTTH), with 41.5 million accesses deployed compared to 33.3 million in June 2017.

NGA accesses on which some service is provided exceeded 10.6 million, 20.5% more than a year ago. Those that grew the most were fiber to the home.

At the end of the second quarter of 2018, of the total park of 14.7 million connections fixed broadband, those that had a contracted speed of 30 Mbps or higher were 10.3 million, which represents 1.8 million more than in June 2017. More than half of these 10.3 million lines (55%) had a contracted speed of 100 Mbps or more.

Although at the end of the second quarter of 2018, almost 90% of fixed broadband lines belonged to the three main operators, this share is 2.8 percentage points less than a year ago.

If we look at mobile lines (which totaled 53.4 million, 81.4% of them with Internet connection), 79.8% belonged to the three main operators compared to 82.2% a year ago.

In June 2018, the total of quadruple and quintuple packages reached 12 million, which represents 602 thousand more packages than a year ago.

This increase corresponds almost entirely to the five-fold packages, which grew to 5.7 million, adding 649 thousand net additions in the last year, compared to the 46 thousand withdrawals recorded by the four-fold package.
