Grass Valley launches its K2 Solo server

Grass Valley has unveiled a new proposal in its K2 family of servers. It is a portable multi-format server for SD and HD material and designed for live productions and small studios.

During this IBC'09 Grass Valley has increased its family of K2 servers with a new proposal aimed at live production applications and small studios. This is the K2 Solo, a portable multi-format server for SD and HD. It is a compact (in 2 RU), low-cost two-channel server, capable of storing up to 20 hours in HD or 40 in SD. The new K2 Solo takes advantage of the K2 Summit client architecture, being fully compatible with the rest of the K2 family software applications, control protocols and all file-based formats. K2 Solo also incorporates the same functions as the four-channel K2 Summit, and can be used with any automation system or under an internal playlist.

Although the K2 Solo is optimized for live production environments, as a replay server or as a replacement for VTRs, it can also be used in regular broadcast streams under manual or automated control. This includes automation, media asset management, and support for multiple control panels as well as the K2 Dyno replay controller. The 'record-to-play' repeat function allows you to execute a repeat in less than half a second, and can even be remote via Ethernet.
