Enterasys launches a solution for video surveillance networks over IP, which satisfies all the operation demands in this environment, as well as a network proposal specifically developed to satisfy all bandwidth needs in editing, post-production and recording.

EnterasysEnterasys has announced the launch of two new network solutions specifically designed for the IP video market, both in terms of IP video surveillance networks and video editing and post-production.

In terms of video surveillance, it is a network solution that meets the specific needs of IP video surveillance networks, in terms of availability, security, traffic management and priority requirements, as well as the ability to operate in hostile environments. Based on its Matrix I Series switch family, this solution combines performance, availability, high capacity, traffic management and prioritization and NAC capabilities with a robust design that allows them to operate in hostile environmental conditions (highway tunnels, industrial sites,...).

The technical characteristics of the equipment include its ability to operate in extreme temperature conditions (operating temperature between – 40º and 60º C), redundant power supply and cooling by convention, end-to-end visibility on all connected IP cameras, policy management on each port, advanced QoS capabilities for prioritizing video traffic and multiple connectivity modules, which allow a flexible configuration adapted to the needs of each environment.

Associated with the Enterasys network access control (NAC) system, the solution eliminates the high installation costs associated with the deployment of these networks by increasing the security of the access network, avoiding human errors in the process and providing an automated database of all devices connected on the network and their connection points.

By using Enterasys NAC capabilities, it is possible to eliminate the main problems associated with the management of video surveillance networks, such as assigning quality of service to video traffic, protecting unauthorized access to video data and applications, and reducing the operational cost of network installation and maintenance.

In addition, the NAC capabilities of this network solution provide new functions and integration interfaces that allow new applications, such as integration into workflows (the NAC application APIs allow integrating network control into the video application in a comprehensive way), integration with geographic information systems (validating the location of the cameras to ensure with a reasonable error range that the camera indicated on a map is actually at that point, or updating the GIS information if a camera changes location) and integration with detection and alert.

IP network for the audiovisual industry

In parallel, Enterasys has presented a network solution developed specifically for the audiovisual industry. This solution, based on Matix X-Series core switches, meets all the bandwidth and quality of service needs required by editing, post-production and recording processes.

The high capacity of this network solution allows real-time editing of video material stored on the network. This material can be requested by any station connected to the editing or viewing network, either through semi-direct access (streaming of the video from the disk store) or by downloading the complete file to perform some type of editing or montage with it.

As Salvador Ferrer, pre-sales director of Enterasys, comments, "in the core of the network, the video streams converge to be distributed to the display monitors and recording systems. Except for the basic requirements of bandwidth and quality of service to ensure that there is no packet loss in transmissions, it is in the recording section where we can find greater requirements"
