The NBC will renew the programming and brand of its five international channels
NBC Universal has decided to change the brand and renew the focus of its five international channels. It will also convert the NBCU Global Networks division into Universal Network.
The five international channels that NBC Universal maintains for different territories worldwide will change brand, image and programming starting next year. This change will also affect the denomination of the NBCU Global Networks division that will operate under the name of Universal Networks. The intention of the NBC is that its international channels go on to issue a content closer to each of the territories without neglecting the issuance of the mythical programs and series of the North American NBC as well as new its own productions for channels such as Syfy or Calle 13. All this production will be carried out in high definition, also emitting in HD in a progressive number of channels.
One of the first channels that will be affected by this remodeling will be Syfy Universal France, in January 2010. February will launch the new universal studio for Latin America. The signal of the different Universal NBC channels will reach 130 countries at the end of 2010 and about 150 million viewers.
On the other hand, the introduction of high definition on strategic platforms remains a priority for Universal Networks on its way until reaching 100 channels in 2010.
