CES 2010: the most innovative event in three decades

From next Thursday, January 7, and until next Sunday it will take place in Las Vegas Ces 2010, the largest international fair dedicated to consumer electronics that according to the president of the Consumer Electronics Association, organizer of the event, promises to be the edition with more innovations in its history.

Las Vegas will host one more year between January 7 and 10, the largest international fair dedicated to consumption electronics. And this time, despite the difficult economic situation, CES 2010, which celebrates its twenty -eighth edition, it will arrive with more news than ever as confirmed by Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CES).

Among many other novelties, we will have to be very attentive to the proposals of the industry giants in two revolutions that affect televisions: on the one hand, 3D immersive environments, and, on the other, direct access to the Internet as a large pool of high definition content.

Despite Shapiro's forecast, the reality is that in this edition two marks of weight such as Apple and Google will be missing, which have chosen not to present their new touch tablet and its Nexus One phone, organizing presentations outside the Las Vegas appointment as the one that takes place today, January five, in the company in Mountain View, California. And, although Google will also be missed, in CES 2010 some of the new smartphones equipped with its mobile operating system will be revealed. And be careful, because this robust operational system could also make the jump to televisions!

And although Apple will not be ‘present body’ if it will be in ‘spirit’ since it only enough to say that a whole pavilion will house a hundred exhibitors showing all kinds of accessories and proposals for apple gadgets. Apple will take advantage of CES to evaluate the reception that the devices of its competitors receive and would probably wait until the end of the month to present its own tablet device that promises to erase the border between electronic books, whose market is in full expansion, and the rest of the portable devices.

Tablets and ebooks

Television continues to flirt with the Internet and under the protection of services such as Netflix or the expected iTunes with television programs, broadband finds a new ally on the living room. Abricantes such as Samsung, Sharp, Sony or Panasonic have begun to market televisions that offer a series of widgets that facilitate online access to selected content related to weather, traffic or financial information.

Intel's announcement in the chip market that facilitates navigability on the TV has led to other manufacturers such as Texas Instruments, NXP or Broadcom have been encouraged to have rethink their emergence in this potential market with the consequent cheaper that in the coming months would have this technology. Other companies such as Personal Web System, founded by the ex-director of Intel, Gordon Campbell, have entered this market marketing for about 65 euros a device that allows televisions to have full access to the Internet.

Not alien to this process are also the Set-Top Box manufacturers that consider this market as their veiled land. In addition, the fact that the Set Top Box are related to cable or satellite platforms would mean that the Internet service could be carried out through its servers thus avoiding some problems such as virus proliferation or the possibility of including parental controls.

The first 3D televisions of Panasonic and Sony will also have to be followed closely in CES 2010. The Blu-ray consortium will carry out in Las Vegas a demonstration of 3D images in high definition, at the same time that the video game console manufacturers will show the realism that can reach the new generation of stereoscopic games.

Mobile television, even more over the corner of the digital dividend that will grant more bandwidth to the speradores, will be another of the areas with more news in CES 2010 with new portable equipment both smartphones and multimedia players.
