Lorenzo describes as “bold” the commitment to “make the entire available spectrum available to the market”
The general director of Telecommunications of the SETSI, Bernardo Lorenzo, advocates during the closing of the II ASIMELEC-UPM Summer Course for “regulatory changes” to encourage traditional operators to invest in the deployment of new generation networks and applauds the measures launched by the Government to optimize the use of the spectrum.
Bernardo Lorenzo, general director of Telecommunications at SETSI, closed the II ASIMELEC Summer Course this Thursday with a brief intervention that he took advantage of to highlight the robustness of the telecommunications sector. “A sector that, although influenced by the crisis, is holding up well within its limits: in 2009 it had revenues of 42,000 million euros, an investment of more than 4,300 million euros, and has continued to generate employment or at least maintain its around 80,000 jobs”, and point out that “regulatory changes” are proposed to encourage traditional operators to invest in the deployment of new generation networks and “improve conditions and guarantees”. and reduce the risks of those who have fewer possibilities to invest.”
Lorenzo announced during his speech at the closing of the ASIMELEC Course that hours later he would meet with the television concessionaires of the state-wide DTT service (Antena 3, Gestevisión Telecinco, Sogecable, Veo Televisión, NET TV and La Sexta). He also referred to the radio spectrum policy and described as “bold” the Spanish commitment to “make all the available spectrum available to the market and launch actions that allow the use of the spectrum to be optimized and more flexible in the hands of the operators.”
The general director of Telecommunications has also indicated that they have already received 30 proposals for the public consultation, which Industry opened on June 15 to request the opinion of the agents affected in the process. "We have received 30 proposals from all the agents in the sector and we are going to dedicate August to studying them in order to take action in September. It is a reasonable plan that has to have the approval of the competition or at least with little opposition. With it we want to promote competition and coverage in the telecommunications sector"
