Formats and documentaries focus the interest of the Basque Audiovisual stand at MIPTV
Despite the general atmosphere of uncertainty in the sector and the decrease in the overall number of participants, the Basque delegation in Cannes has registered an increase in professional meetings at the highest level. The trends highlighted at the Fair affect the development of “new media content”, coinciding with the lines of work projected in the Eiken Advance initiative.
Formats and documentaries have become the star products of the Basque Audiovisual stand at the recently closed MIPTV fair in Cannes. Most of the queries and requests for information registered at the stand, promoted by the Etxepare Institute and Eiken, have been directed towards these genres, in line with the trends detected at the fair as a whole.
Regarding the average professional profile of the people who have come to the Basque Audioviusal venue, this year a greater presence of senior managers from production companies and distributors has been detected. The interest of this group is essential to obtain “quality” contacts that will bear fruit in subsequent agreements, especially taking into account that the uncertainty of the sector and the economic crisis has caused a reduction in the number of attendees.
The Basque companies that have been present at Cannes under the umbrella of Basque Audiovisual have been 3Koma, Bainet, EiTB, Expressive, Mediabask, Moztu Filmak, My Jok, Orio Produkzioak and Pausoka. The director Eriz Zapirain, the heads of the Vitoria-Gasteiz Film Office and the director of Eiken, Itziar Mena, also attended.
This year, in addition to the commercial activity carried out in the Riviera Pavilion, attendees at MIPTV have been able to learn more about the latest trends in the sector, which seems to be moving quickly towards new digital media. In this sense, the projections made worldwide confirm the commitment made by Eiken through the Eiken Advance initiative, since the future of the sector seems to be heading towards a convergent concept of “new media content”.
Among the programmed activities, the celebration of Connected Creativity, a global forum that has brought together for the first time the main technology, mobile telephony and entertainment companies, has had a special impact. The objective has been to facilitate and create collaboration formulas between the three sectors, given the growing importance of content for mobile devices and its increasingly widespread use.
The 3D television format and “connectable” devices have also been widely disseminated at the fair, which according to the organizers has managed to attract more than 11,000 participants from 107 different countries. In total, 1,500 exhibitors have presented their products at MIPTV, with potential demand established at more than 4,000 potential buyers.
