With the aim of adapting to the production needs of each client, Blackmagic Design's range of ATEM mixers are configured as an option with powerful functions, small size and optimized cost. It has three models: 1 M/E, 2 M/E and Television Studio (with direct H264 encoding for webstreaming).

Blackmagic Design is willing to do battle in the production mixer market with a complete range, inherited from the purchase of EchoLab that it keeps more alive than ever, whose main feature is the possibility of purchasing it separately from the control panel. Users of the new ATEM family could thus start with a lower-cost device, using the chassis and a software control panel for Mac or PC, expanding the installation with a hardware-based panel later, guaranteeing the durability of the investment.

From any laptop, Mac or Windows, the ATEM range software allows you to manage the mix with the consequent reduction in costs and the possibility of easily moving the equipment to any location. ATEM control provides a professional software-based M/E control panel with settings, paddles and a set of materials that are very easy to operate and parameterize.

A la carte mixer

Blackmagic has two models with various configuration options, with or without a control panel. The 1 M/E model is housed in a 2RU chassis, with 8 inputs (SDI, HDMI and components) and 3 auxiliary outputs, as well as a multi-screen for monitoring. This possibility eliminates the cost of monitoring since the integrated multiviewer allows all sources, previews and programs to be displayed on any HDMI or SDI monitor.

The 2 M/E model occupies 3RU with 16 inputs, 6 auxiliary outputs, 2 multiviewers for monitoring, redundant power input and SuperSource multilayer composition.

Both offer four USK keyers with an independent chroma, and linear key in the transition block, as well as 2 DSK keyers, independent stinger effects, wipers and fades, integrated DVE for transitions, key repositioning and downconverted SDI/composite video outputs for easy connectivity and SDI and HDMI program outputs.

As for the control panels, the 1 M/E model (can be rack-mounted) and the 2 M/E console that allows full control of the ATEM 2 M/E mixer. All hardware and software control panels are compatible with all ATEM mixers.

Another advantage of ATEM mixers is that they include direct USB 3.0 capture to another USB 3.0 port for perfect 10-bit image capture in Full HD resolution, as well as Media Express software that makes it easy to capture AVI or DPX files. Both can include BlackMagic Design's Ultrascope software that allows you to monitor up to six measurements including waveform monitor, vectorscope, histogram, RGB/YUV, 8-channel audio levels, and audio waveform.

As for multimedia playback, the ATEMs have two independent players with 2 GB that allow you to launch up to 32 photos and two clips live for the Key and Fill channels. In this way, we can reproduce with immediate access animated kogos, skirts, titles, graphic transitions, curtains...

Finally, note that the HDMI port of the ATEM facilitates a very simple start of operation.

ATEM Television Studio

At NAB 2011, Blackmagic introduced the new ATEM Television Studio that combines a professional mixer with a broadcast-quality H.264 encoder. This solution is designed for multi-camera production and direct broadcast encoding for the Internet.

ATEM Television Studio includes six video inputs for cameras and SDI and HDMI sources. It is housed in a rack unit with a software-based control panel for Mac OS X and Windows. For those who wish to have a hardware panel, it is compatible with the ATEM 1 M/E panel.

Blackmagic's new proposal includes all the needs for a live production environment such as upstream chroma keyer, two media players, transitions, multi-panel monitoring... Users can use the software control panel to control the mixer via Ethernet from any laptop, incredibly improving the portability of the equipment.

ATEM Television Studio allows you to connect any laptop to capture H264 master files in Full HD resolution.
Its HDMI connectivity allows the system to be adapted to HDMI consumer cameras. Each video input offers automatic frame re-synchronization so it is not necessary to have genlock cameras, and they can be connected directly to the system. It has four HDMI inputs and four other SDI/HD-SDI inputs for professional cameras. The mixer includes SDI and HDMI program outputs (with connection to multi-display) and USB 2.0 for live recording of the program source with high quality H264 for web.

The multiviewer offers a dozen video channels that are fully customizable in terms of tally indicator labels, displaying the signals on any HDMI monitor.
