New audiovisual content archiving solutions from SM Data
The main innovations that SM Data will show at Broadcast IT 2011 are: StoreData SHARC Lite, StoreData MAM and the new generation of StoreData RAID Fiber Channel systems from 8 Gb to SAS 6 Gbit.
SM Data participates once again in the Broadcast IT 2011 International Audiovisual Technology Exhibition, which will take place from October 25 to 28, 2011, at the Juan Carlos I Fair Park in Madrid (stand 3E12)). Its presence in this edition will focus on presenting its new audiovisual content archiving solutions for television channels. Likewise, at its stand you can see the latest news from the most important manufacturers it represents: ATTO, Infortrend, QLogic, Quantum, StorNext and XenData.
As on previous occasions, SM Data's objective is to offer a functional stand where it can show its new data storage products for the audiovisual industry, and so that both its partners and end users can see, touch and request practical demonstrations.
To do this, SM Data will implement an 8 Gb high-speed SAN network at its stand, which allows storage resources to be shared through Fiber Optic between the different workstations. This network will be made up of: Fiber Channel HBA cards from ATTO and QLogic, Fiber Channel switches from QLogic, tape libraries from Quantum, StoreData RAID storage systems from SM Data and EonStor from Infortrend and file sharing software applications (File Sharing) StorNext from Quantum, the HSM solution StorNext Storage Manager from Quantum and Archiving software from XenData.
And also, as the main novelties that SM Data will present at the fair:
- StoreData MAM, audiovisual content management and archiving solution (Media Asset Management). This is a joint project between Tedial and SM Data with the purpose of providing medium and small television channels with an integrated, certified and low-cost archiving solution, with features that until now were only found in large systems at a very high price.
- StoreData SHARC Lite, a low-cost content management and archiving solution, which consists of an external desktop drive with an LTO-4 (800 GB native) or LTO-5 (1,500 GB native) drive and archiving software, allowing a Windows 7 workstation to mount said tape drive acting as if it were a hard drive, to which files can be archived by simply dragging and dropping, or copying and pasting, to through Windows Explorer itself, allowing an unlimited number of tapes to be used. But also, and perhaps most importantly, using the accompanying software allows you to ask the system which tape a given file is on. This is the minimum expression of a digital file based on LTO cartridges, the same ones used in high-end files.
- The latest generation of StoreData RAID 8Gb Fiber Channel storage systems. The new StoreData RAID 2546 family stands out, with 4 8 Gbit Fiber Channel ports per controller and which supports 6 Gbit SAS and SATA-II drives, including the new 3 TB near-line SATA drives. It offers a rack configuration with initial capacities of 12 or 16 drives per cabinet, being expandable with SAS/SATA JBODs through the SAS port to configurations of up to 112 drives. In addition, it includes management tools in its standard version with expansion options in the RAID controller firmware (SnapShot, Volume Mirror/Copy, Remote Replication and Thin Provisioning).
