Thomson Video Networks adds Dolby encoding and DASH support to its ViBE VS7000 platform

Thomson Video Networks will show its ViBE VS7000 OTT platform with Dolby audio processing and MPEG-DASH support in Las Vegas.

Thomson Video Networks has added Dolby audio processing and MPEG-DASH support to its ViBE VS7000 encoding/transcoding platform for Web TV, over-the-top (OTT) services, IPTV and cable distribution.

Introduced at the last NAB, the ViBE VS7000 video system from Thomson Video Networks now offers a full range of Dolby audio technologies. Previously available with AAC, HE-AAC and MPEG-1 Layer II audio features, this versatile platform now incorporates Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby Digital encoding and decoding, as well as Dolby Digital to Dolby Digital Plus transcoding, enriching the ViBE VS7000's audio processing toolbox with true surround sound capabilities.

Another new feature at NAB 2012 is support for MPEG-DASH on the ViBE VS7000. In addition to the streaming formats already available (Adobe Flash, Apple HTTP Live Streaming and Microsoft Smooth Streaming), the ViBE VS7000 now offers the new MPEG-DASH (dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP) standard, the first version of which was approved in November 2011. As a member of the DASH Promoter Group, Thomson Video Networks strongly believes that this new standard will help address the dramatic growth of Internet video distribution by defining a standardized distribution format universal. Dolby has proposed extensions to the current standard to have DASH support for Dolby Digital Plus, enabling the ability to distribute high-quality multichannel audio to a wide range of connected devices.

At NAB 2012, the ViBE VS7000 will be on display at the Thomson Video Networks and Dolby booths, showcasing Dolby Digital Plus multichannel audio and MPEG-DASH streaming.
