The famous German news weekly incorporates IPTV from Exterity for the distribution of TV channels in its new production studios.

Once again IPTV technology Exterity has been chosen as the ideal solution for TV and video distribution in a corporate environment.

This time it has been the famous German news magazine Der Spiegel, which has trusted Exterity's IPTV solutions for its implementation in its new offices in Hamburg.

The IPTV solution supplies a combination of 47 SD and HD TV channels simultaneously to 600 staff members throughout the new facility. All this was carried out by PMS, its German integrator in just one week.

The distributed channels are a mix of live TV broadcasts captured by an Exterity DVB-S2 TVgateway (taking channels from Astra and Hotbird) and internal TV channels using HD-SDI encoders from SpiegelTV's production/playout centers and via WAN from external broadcast studios. All channels can be viewed on employees' computers using Exterity's AvediaPlayer Desktop or on screens connected to the 160 AvediaPlayer receivers installed throughout the building.

Spiegel chose Exterity's solution due to its flexible approach to IPTV using industry-standard technologies to ensure interoperability between Spiegel's key systems. This included integration with Active Directory for username/password controlled access to video playback and TV channels. Other factors that influenced the choice of the Exterity IPTV system were the ability to play video on both PC and Mac, the great reliability and quality that a digital solution offers through large installations and number of users.
