Sony Digital Cinema revives Queen in movie theaters around the world
The concert 'Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live In Budapest '86' can be seen remastered and with 5.1 sound in cinemas around the world starting September 20.
Sony Digital Cinema, in association with More2Screen, has been tapped by Eagle Rock Entertainment to distribute the concert film Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live In Budapest ’86 in digital theaters worldwide starting September 20, 2012.
This event remastered in high definition and 5.1 surround sound includes 25 minutes of never-before-seen footage tracking the band from shortly after their legendary performance at Live Aid in Wembley, UK and through the year leading up to the Budapest concert.
For the millions of Queen fans around the world it will be a memorable event, as they will be able to dress up, sing and be part of this global Queen celebration.
On July 27, 1986, Queen gave their biggest concert ever at the Nepstadium in Budapest, before 80,000 ecstatic fans. There were three years left until the fall of the Berlin Wall and Hungary was still 'behind the Iron Curtain', the concert had such an impact that the Hungarian authorities summoned a group of the most important Hungarian cameramen and film technicians to record it.
The resulting concert film features many of Queen's favorite songs such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, I Want To Break Free y We Are The Champions. The concert was part of the hugely successful Magic Tour and turned out to be Freddie Mercury's last with the band.
Fans are in for a treat with previously unseen documentary footage of the band following their memorable Live Aid performance in 1985.
David McIntosh, executive vice president of Sony Digital Cinema, commented that "this second collaboration with More2Screen once again offers us exclusive and attractive content in cinemas around the world. This legendary film will attract new fans to cinemas and will allow us to offer new digital content to exhibitors."
For her part, Christine Costello, CEO of More2Screen, says that "we are delighted to be working again with Eagle Rock Entertainment and Sony Digital Cinema and to have the opportunity to bring this Queen concert film to digital cinemas around the world. Nobody needs to be told that Queen is one of the best groups of all time and, of course, we all know their songs."
