One of the largest American Broadcasters, with more than 43 stations in its network, standardizes the Selenium platform for DTV signal coding and processing.

Raycom Media, one of the largest television networks in the US, has selected the average selenium convergence platform of Harris to exclusively update the coding services of its 43 stations distributed throughout the country.

This solution will allow Raycom to offer signs in SD and HD with a greater capacity for channels and a safer redundancy.

Selenium provides a unique digital video process process in base band, compression and IP capacities, all on a platform with high energy efficiency and occupying a small space.

Raycom will take advantage of the flexibility of selenium for the synchronization of Frame Video/Audio and Audio Processing 5.1, with the possibility of making a “Upmixing” 2.0 of stereo signals to Digital Surround.

The Broadcaster opted for Selenium after his long experience with the Netvx coding platform in Harris, which will be maintained at all network stations as a redundant solution in case of necessity.

Harris will launch the new systems in three months, providing rapid shipments so that all stations are already working with Selenium as soon as possible. Bob Thurber, director of Engineering at Raycom, has emphasized the support that Harris offers them: "I cannot imagine a better company than Harris for customer service and land service, and I think that is a consensus we share many of my companions in the industry. We choose Selenium especially for technological reasons, but the mod model of reliable and coherent customer service is very important for us, especially in a critical operation.

Thurber adds that the establishment of a common signal coding and the processing of the platform facilitates the operation and maintenance in all the stations that make up the Raycomn network.

"The conformity of hardware platforms is something we try to meet, and Selenium is a dynamic platform that will remain in service for many years. The ability to handle the distribution of IP addresses is a potential challenge in the future, and in a single chassis. That is the dynamic nature of this platform, and it was an important consideration in its selection," said Thurber.
