At IBC 2012 Harris will extend its PowerSmart value proposition with new options aimed at reducing space and consumption while increasing efficiency in digital TV networks.

Harris Broadcast Communications aims to help broadcasters and network operators reduce space and consumption while improving efficiency in shared transmission facilities.

Harris introduced its PowerSmart concept four years ago with the aim of increasing the density, power and efficiency of its systems, while reducing operating costs and improving the total cost of ownership for broadcasters and digital terrestrial TV operators.

Now, at IBC 2012 Harris will extend its PowerSmart value proposition with new options in a compact transmitter design that will be a great help to international broadcasters facing difficult budgets.

Harris is evolving its series of Maxiva UAX digital transmitters by integrating technologies that reduce consumption and space, increasing efficiency as evident in the new Maxiva UAX Compact (only 2RU high). Its small size allows broadcasters that operate large or small transmission networks greater flexibility when deploying low-power transmitters in small spaces in different locations.

These new designs are now available for all digital modulations (DVB-T2, DVB-T/H, ISDB-Tb, ATSC and others) with power levels from 300 W to 1250 W.

Harris also addresses the needs of those high-power broadcasters, many of which share transmission facility space by integrating band-pass filter systems into its Maxiva ULX high-power UHF transmitters.

Additionally, Maxiva ULX transmitters can now incorporate external liquid cooling systems using a pump housed next to the transmitter, reducing installation time and floor space requirements. This is an especially valuable feature in Europe and other regions where broadcasters and operators pay based on the space they occupy in shared transmission facilities.

Visitors to the Harris stand at IBC will also be able to see Maxiva transmitters operating alongside an integrated Harris DVB-T2 headend solution, as well as the Harris Selenio convergence platform for integrated multiplexing coding, and the Videotek family of monitoring and test systems such as the new MSA Series.

Radio

For Radio, and with large international operators in mind, Harris will present a series of new analog and digital radio transmission products at IBC.

Harris will showcase four new low-power models of the Flexiva series (50, 150, 300 and 500 W), expanding its range to adapt to the network's analog and digital transmission requirements. This is ideal for international broadcasters deploying multiple low-power FM transmitters across a region or country. The low-power models join a growing range, which also includes several medium and high-power options ranging from 1 to 40 kW.

Harris will also introduce its Platinum VAX Compact-Class range of transmitters, designed on PowerSmart architecture to minimize footprint and consumption costs. Available in 50, 300 and 600W, the Platinum VAX range takes up half the space of its predecessor (at 2RU). Its integrated Apex M2X exciter allows for simple modulation changes to support mobile TV transmission for analog and digital broadcast standards, including DVB-T, DVB-T2 and T-DMB.
