Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the popular South Park They have launched their own production project: Important Studios.
To launch this initiative, they have different investors as well as the income generated by the success of the musical Mormon's book A Broadway.
"When working with many different studies over the years we realized that the people I love most in the world are ourselves," the couple has joked by announcing the new company. With an estimated capital of 300 million dollars, they will develop important projects for television, cinema and theater. The first will be precisely the cinematographic version of Mormon's book.
The banker Joseph Ravitch, former director of Goldman Sachs, has invested some 60 million dollars in the new producer.
Initially, Stone considers it important to compare with the greats such as Dreamworks, Steven Spielberg, and Lucasfilm, George Lucas, but reconsidered: "In a way, it is a stupid comparison, because they are giants." "We want to be smaller, a humble version of that," he said.
The creative couple may, thanks to their new study, have control of future projects, thus avoiding the traditional Hollywood system. "We want to have control of our lives," said Stone. "We used to go to a study and try to be employed ... but look where we are."
