Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the popular South Park have launched their own production project: Important Studios.

To launch this initiative, they have different investors as well as the income generated by the success of the musical The Book of Mormon a Broadway.

“Working with many different studios over the years we realized that the people I love most in the world are ourselves,” the couple joked when announcing the new company. With an estimated capital of 300 million dollars, they will develop important projects for television, film and theater. The first will be precisely the film version of The Book of Mormon.

Banker Joseph Ravitch, former director of Goldman Sachs, has invested about $60 million in the new production company.

Initially, Stone considered it important to compare himself to the greats like DreamWorks, Steven Spielberg, and Lucasfilm, George Lucas, but reconsidered: “In a way, it's a stupid comparison, because they are giants.” “We want to be smaller, a humble version of that,” he said.

The creative couple will be able, thanks to their new studio, to have control of future projects, thus avoiding the traditional Hollywood system. “We want to be in control of our lives,” Stone said. “We used to go to a studio and try to be employees… but look where we are.”
