ITU approves next-generation H.265 format
The new High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) format would allow 4K video streaming.
The ITU (International Telecommunications Union) has approved the new H.265 video format, known as High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). The main objective of the new standard is to achieve greater efficiency for video streaming, which would guarantee lower band consumption, allowing the transmission of higher quality content.
In addition to a gain in quality in some situations, even allowing 4K video streaming, the compression efficiency of this encoding can make it possible to access video over slower connections, such as mobile networks with insufficient bandwidth to run the H.264 pattern.
This is the first step in the evolution of this video format. After the consolidation of the new standard, a new generation of chips for video playback devices will come, capable of decoding this format in hardware and thus avoiding slowness or excessive consumption of system resources to execute the content.
