Santiago A. Zannou's new movie, Scorpion in love, has been ethical and formed in Telson using the Nucoda Master of Digital Vision System.
The full postproduction of the film has been carried out in the company of the Vértice 360 group by the colorist Ximo Michavila, the graphist Javier Martínez, the supervisor VFX Isidro Jiménez Sánchez and the person in charge of forming and conversion to different formats Javier López Casado.
With Santiago A. Zannou and Carlos Bardem, Scorpion in love, produced by Morena Films, is an urban farm fable starring Álex González, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Javier Bardem, Carlos Bardem and Judith Diakhate, who portrays neo -fascism in urban gangs, intermingling boxing and romanticism.
Ximo Michavila says that the film arrived in Telson very well shot and with an impeccable image quality: "The truth that photography director Juanmi Azpiroz has done a fantastic job in this film, so the time in postproduction has been used above all in improving what was already there and not in solving problems that could have arisen at some point."
Marked lights
The film has a look of marked lights, very intentional chiaroscuros and powerful colors. "The director of photography set out to break the stereotypes of this type of films, which usually have more unaturated colors, and do something very rich in shades, treating dramatic situations based on color saturation and trying to make this protagonist," says Ximo Michavila.
The color correction work basically consisted of balancing and equalizing the levels of light and colorimetry by adjusting them to the characteristics of the sequences, as well as clarifying skin tones and other objects and areas, using the tools of the selective correction nucoda of colors and lights of luminance, masks, tracking, ...
"In much of the plans appear mixtures and elements of different shades of color; some came of filming and others we created them or reinforce in the ethalonage process," says Ximo Michavila.
Telson's colorist highlights above all the use he gave to the track by deform of the Nucoda, which is a deformable mask that detects, predefined, the contour of the object to correct and adapts to its shape when it is in motion. "It is a fantastic tool for moving plans that greatly facilitates the process of monitoring an area where you want to work, doing it very precisely."
Ximo Michavila remembers as one of the most complex scenes to Etalonar when the character characterized by Javier Bardem offers a speech to his followers. “The place was a very wide space with several windows where the light from the outside entered. As the scene was shot for a long time, there were times when these windows had different levels of light, so with the tools of the nucod slightly different on several planes depending on their density, so these planes were also balanced. ”
In Telson they are delighted with the Nucoda Film Master and the possibilities it offers since it has “tools of all kinds that allow you to make very selective image corrections; it is also very versatile and comfortable to work, and at all times you are sure that anything that the client asks you will be able to give it,” says Ximo Michavila. "It also has constant updates that improve the system and offer new tools regularly," he adds.
Speed at workflow
Isidro Jiménez Sánchez, Telson VFX Supervisor, highlights the speed of Nucoda as one of its main advantage. “This, together with the powerful San de DVS that we have in Telson, allows us to work with a lot constant evolution, ”he says
Another of the advantages of the Nucoda is that it integrates the forming and color correction in the same system: "This is very important because with the Nucoda you can do almost the entire process of a film, from the intake, formed and color correction, to the insertion of the special effects," says Isidro Jiménez.
On the other hand, the Nucoda recognizes the native material of the main digital chambers that are used in the audiovisual industry, so the compatibility with the files of all of them is perfect at all times. In the case of Alacrán in love, the film was shot with Red Epic with an original 5K resolution, although the final delivery was 2k.
The truth is that in Telson they are very satisfied with the final result of the film's look: "It has been round, very striking, and with a very original and innovative photograph; we believe that the director of photography, the director and the Morena Films team are satisfied with the work done," concludes Ximo Michavila.
Pedro Escalona, commercial director of Trigital, who represents exclusively to Digital Vision in Spain, admits that “the film has been fantastic and once again the people of Telson have managed to take advantage of the powerful tools of the Nucoda, which make it the system par excellence for the finish of movies, television and advertising, providing a complete intermediate digital solution (DI), with primary and secondary color correction.
