The film's 3D motion graphics team uses Maxon software to recreate an Earth devastated by aliens, improving speed and accuracy in the overall workflow.

Oblivion

Under the direction of Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy), Tom Cruise has returned to the big screen with Oblivion, an apocalyptic story set on an Earth devastated by aliens in 2077.

The film's design director, Bradley “Gmunk” Mundowitz (Prometheus) worked directly with Konsinski and his team at Crater Lake Productions.

Munkowitz assembled a design team of animation artists familiar with Cinema 4D, including David “Dlew” Lewandowski (Tron: the legacy) and Navarro Parker (Transformers, The Avengers…) to deliver extensive 3D graphics content essential to the film's story.

OblivionPaul Babb, president and CEO of Maxon, stated that “it has been a great honor for Maxon that the team of Oblivion has chosen Cinema 4D to respond to the complex 3D graphic design movement and the workflow challenges that have allowed us to offer the viewer the apocalyptic vision that Kosinski wanted to capture on the big screen. The visual results are excellent.”

"Cinema 4D has been extremely useful in creating a variety of audio-sensitive graphics and lightbox assets. Its speed and MoGrah resource set have been paramount in taking Kosinski's fast graphics, executing them quickly, with precision, establishing a consistent graphic language rarely seen in big-budget, big-budget sci-fi films. No other tool is ready for intensive motion graphics like Cinema 4D."

Munkowitz is convinced that the speed and precision in Cinema 4D improves the overall workflow, helping the team create the character Vika's (Andrea Riseborough) light table, one of the graphic elements that appears most in the film and which functions as a central information center, offering important information to help the characters with their tasks on Earth. Composed of four screens, the light table features a main map used to monitor the position of Bubbleship, the helicopter-like vehicle that Jack Harper uses to travel to Earth. The team also created and animated all the HUDs (heads-up displays) of various futuristic machines and weapons in this Universal-produced film.
