Given the continuous growth of its services in the Baltic, Viasat with Platinum IP3 has increased the multi-screen capacity, allowing new channels and services to be monitored.

In order to increase the capacity of its broadcast center in Riga (Latvia), the DTH pay TV operator, Viasat, belonging to Modern Times Group (MTG), just installed the new Platinum IP3 matrix from Harris Broadcast in a 512x1024 configuration.

The project, carried out together with the Latvian distributor Tilts Integration, will allow Viasat to increase its signal management capacity, reinforcing redundancy at the crossing points in order to eventually support more than 1,500 outputs in a future expansion.

Harris Platinum IP3Given the continuous growth of its services in the Baltic, Viasat has been forced to interconnect more devices and destinations. This has required a new intelligent matrix capable of providing a large number of additional access paths and increasing system availability. Platinum IP3 features redundant power supplies with full redundancy at all crossover points.

Magnus Lindholm, director of platform development at MTG, has assured that this installation “has allowed us” to expand our services to more than double the capacity without having to disconnect the old matrix at any time, something vital in a center as large as ours. "It's like replacing a car engine while driving at full speed along a highway."

Viasat is monitoring all signals and traffic through Harris' HView system.

Mathias Eckert, vice president of sales and services for Europe and Africa at Harris Broadcast, maintains that "users of this type of matrices expect much more than simple signal switching, such as intelligent management of multiple signal types and levels, timing and clocking, format conversion and multi-display monitoring. Platinum IP3 matrices have been developed in direct response to requests from users around the world who seek high reliability, and future-proof integrated routing capabilities."
