Norwegian newspaper VG offers live news with LiveU and Panasonic
VG readers can now access live news via LiveU cellular uplinks connected to Panasonic HPX-250 camcorders or using a simple iPhone.
VG, Norway's leading newspaper, is increasingly using video on its website. Now, VG readers can even access live news thanks to cellular uplinks from LiveU.
VG has long recognized the need to expand its brand and readership with live video as a very important part of its strategy. The press group is using both the LU60s and the new LiveU LU-Smart backpacks. This app allows clients to extend their live video coverage from where the news happens using an iPhone or iPad. Based on the fourth generation of LiveU uplink technology, the new LU-Smart allows you to send image and audio with optimal quality over Wi-Fi or 3G/4G LTE cellular connections.
Pål Hansen, Technical Director at VG TV, says: "LiveU allows us to broadcast live from almost anywhere in an affordable way and without the need for a DSNG unit. With LU-Smart, we can work with live content in a new and exciting way. We use LiveU technology both live and for playback of 'as-live' clips via store and forward to central control. We are very happy with the LiveU technology and the support of its partner Avit Systems."
VG already used two LU60 units as well as iPhone technology at the recent World Ski Championships in Italy, thus broadcasting press conferences and interviews with Norwegian skiers. LiveU LU60 links work in conjunction with the camera Panasonic HPX-250 and off-the-shelf servers running LiveU's LU1000 software. VG has also installed an Ubuntu server to receive the live iPhone feeds.
