Sapec and EIC, winners of a tender for transportation of the regional channels of the Colombian public broadcaster
Radio Television of Colombia (RTVC) awards the acquisition, installation, integration and start-up of the equipment, systems and elements necessary for the transport and synchronization of the satellite signal of its regional channels.
Sapec, in a joint venture with its distributor in Colombia EIC, has been awarded the International Competition organized by the Colombian public television RTVC (Radio Television of Colombia) for the acquisition, installation, integration and commissioning of the equipment, systems and elements necessary for the transport and synchronization of the satellite signal of its regional channels.
In addition to participating as a UTE, Sapec will provide RTVC, now integrated into Signal Colombia Public Media System, with the encoders and multiplexers for said headends.
Although the required encoding algorithm is H.264, encoders have been provided that also support MPEG-2. The chosen model is the Altum AHE6010 with ASI and IP output.
For their part, the multiplexers provided by Sapec have 8 ASI inputs and correspond to the SIVAC family, model MTS1000D8.
H.264 encoding
The coding of the regional channels to be broadcast, Teleantioquía, Telecaribe, Telepacífico, Telecafé and TRO, will be carried out in H.264 and will be broadcast by satellite in the DVB-S2 system (they will be compatible with the DVB-T2 standard).
With this project, RTVC seeks to strengthen its satellite system for the reception, transport and monitoring of the satellite signals that will be transported and the reception of the signals in the different analogue transmitting stations of the national and regional public channels, all within the framework of the implementation of the Public DTT Network Project, Phase I.
RTVC, as manager of public television and owner of the country's most extensive broadcasting network, aims to be at the forefront of technological development. For this reason, they undertake this process of implementing satellite head-ends for the operation of digital terrestrial television.
With the appearance of digital technologies in terrestrial television transmission, Colombian television undertakes this project with the idea of improving audio and video quality conditions, as well as more appropriately using the frequencies and bandwidth assigned to each channel.
With this change, in the same space in which one television program is broadcast in analog standard, four or more can be transmitted with digitalization.
On the other hand, with the new H.264 and DVB-S2 technologies it is possible to optimize the use of satellite bandwidth.
