MBC Cairo

Systems integrator Media Group International has completed an ambitious project in the Middle East for broadcaster MBC Group (Middle East Broadcasting Centre) to launch its new news service in Cairo (Egypt).

MBC Group, one of the leading satellite broadcasters in the Arab world that began its journey in London in 1991 and later moved to its headquarters in Dubai in 2002, has grown to become a highly influential communications group in the region. From its headquarters in the United Arab Emirates, MBC Group offers 12 television channels.

MBC Group's new facilities include a production room, main control, newsroom, broadcast center, and several editing rooms. MGI has also been in charge of all IT infrastructure and the installation of all electrical supply systems.

Paul Wallis, Sales Director at MGI, stated that “the requirements for putting MBC on the air meant having extremely short deadlines. The project was carried out during recent political unrest, which created numerous problems. On at least one occasion our team was unable to leave the facility overnight due to protests by protesters.”

At a time when many companies are avoiding investing in Egypt, MBC's decision to build this new facility reflects its determination to invest in the most advanced technology in order to deliver world-class information to the people of Egypt.
For the studio, the broadcaster has chosen Grass Valley LDX-80 cameras, while at the heart of the installation we find Avid's NewsVision production system, complemented by Vizrt graphics technology. A production switcher from Ross Video, a communications system from Trilogy, and a Studer Vista console are also other components of this project.
