Presentation of the book "Spanish Film Directors" in Córdoba

The Andalusian Film Library of Córdoba has hosted the presentation of the new publication Spanish Film Directors. Yesterday, today and tomorrow, showing talents, edited by the Audiovisual Foundation of Andalusia and the University of Seville (US).

The event, framed in the “Pioneers of Spanish Cinema” Cycle, was attended by Trinidad Núñez, professor at the US assigned to the Department of Social Psychology and coordinator of the book; Teresa Vera, professor of Communication Theories in the Department of Journalism at the University of Malaga (UMA), coordinator of the Master's Degree in Equality and Gender at the University of Malaga and coordinator of the book; Pablo García Casado, head of the Andalusian Film Library; and May Silva, director of the Audiovisual Foundation of Andalusia and coordinator of the book.

In Spain, only 7% of the people who direct film are women, Andalusia has in its entire history much less than a dozen women filmmakers, despite the fact that every year 60% of the people who graduate from audiovisual communication faculties in Andalusia are women. Given these data provided by CIMA, the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media, seeks to highlight the different women who, with great effort, have contributed and continue to contribute to offering other perspectives, which have been, are being and will be essential in the development of a fairer, more egalitarian, kinder society.

The book aims to visualize the presence of women directors in the history of Spanish cinema, offering a didactic tool at the service of people in training, the various agents that make up the audiovisual sector and the general public.

In this way, it is possible to reconstruct the biographical and professional history of the women who have been and are leading Spanish cinema and who have managed to break gender barriers to bring their products to the market; and make visible the talent in directing feature films produced in Spain, knowing who these women are, those who exercise power by making decisions and breaking barriers (economic, management or credibility)... and knowing the characteristics of their work. This will contribute to highlighting their creations but will also constitute their own genealogy for those students who, being the majority in the classrooms, can be recognized in just two or three names.

The title Spanish Film Directors. Yesterday, today and tomorrow, showing talents It is the fourth volume of the Collection Media and Social Responsibility edited by the AVA Foundation and which arises from the confirmation of how Social Communication Media are an important agent of informal education, which at the present time constitutes the first-rate organized system in bringing knowledge of reality, but it is also important in the transmission of values or in the creation of collective consciousness.
