Honduras adopts the Japanese-Brazilian digital television standard

The Central American country is the fifteenth in the world that opts for ISDB-T over DVB-T as the standard for digital terrestrial television.

tv antennasThe government of Honduras has announced the adoption of ISDB-T as the standard for digital terrestrial television. In 2007, Honduras had opted for the US ATSC system, but has finally changed its policy by opting for the Japanese-Brazilian standard.

Therefore, Honduras is the third country in Central America to choose the Japanese-Brazilian standard, and fifteenth in the world. Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Philippines, Botswana and Guatemala have already opted for ISDB-T, in addition to Brazil and Japan

Honduran regulators justify this decision by ensuring that many countries have adopted the ISDB-T system since the system combines technical characteristics that allow better coverage and use of the spectrum.

The Japanese-Brazilian standard offers high image and sound quality, allowing interactivity with the viewer and access to mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and GPS devices.

Another advantage that has weighed in the case of Honduras is that Brazil and Japan offer technological training and technology transfer to countries that opt ​​for the system.

El Salvador, Belize and Nicaragua are other countries that are currently considering whether to opt for the Japanese-Brazilian standard.
