FIFA will use Sony's professional 4K equipment in its 4K live filming processes during the World Cup and for the production of the official championship film in Ultra High Definition.

Sony and FIFA have announced that they will collaborate on a series of 4K initiatives during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, including the production of an official championship film in 4K ultra HD, and three full matches, to further promote the new 4K format. The most famous soccer tournament will be held in Brazil from June 12 to July 13.

The film will include a selection of matches, including the final. FIFA will distribute the official film in 4K through content distribution services after the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. At trade stands in some of the 2014 FIFA World Cup stadiums and at public HD screenings at FIFA fan parties in Brazil, visitors will be able to enjoy promotional trailers for the official film in 4K/60P featuring all the match action.

Sony 4K FIFAFurthermore, FIFA will use Sony's professional 4K equipment in its 4K live production processes during the 2014 FIFA World Cup to record a round of 16 match (to be played on June 28), a quarter-final match (July 4) and the final (July 13) at the Maracaná Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Sony will provide extensive technical advice to FIFA, including the development of a 4K live delivery system. Products and solutions, such as the PMW-F55 4K CineAlta Live Camera, PWS-4400 4K Multiport AV Storage Unit, PVM-X300 4K Professional LCD Monitor, and MVS-7000X 4K Multi-format Video Switcher (subject to change), will be used in the filming of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. 4K footage will be captured on the official movie in 4K.
