Quantel solutions for the entire production chain from news and sports to finishing

The solution for finishing and color correction and one of Quantel's flagships, Pablo Rio, protagonist of the Quantel stand at BIT Broadcast 2014.

Following the recent purchase of Snell by the British company Quantel, it has become evident in this BIT Broadcast 2014 the potential that the new Quantel-Snell will mean throughout the production chain from news and sports, to signal finishing, correction and routing.

Of note, Quantel has licensed Apple ProRes codecs for its entire range of high-quality Pablo Rio color correction and finishing software and end-to-end systems, and Pablo PA software help system.

The ProRes codecs will be part of the V2.0 rev8 software update for Pablo Rio and Pablo PA, expected to be released in late April. The new license includes ProRes 4444, ProRes 422 (HQ), ProRes 422, ProRes 422 (LT) and ProRes 422 (Proxy) codecs.

News and sports

In production environments for news and sports, Quantel has added new editing tools for Enterprise sQ. On the other hand, with respect to sQ FileFlow, version 2 presents easier integration with more workflows (support for ftp servers along with CFIS) and increased productivity (new HTML 5 UI) and greater security in terms of access. Additionally, it is worth highlighting the support for AS-11 as a file sending format for program finishing (MXF OP1A).

Quantel has announced major developments for its Enterprise sQ news and sports production system. These include enhancements to what is already the fastest news editor in the industry, and significant advancements in file-based workflows and management that help integrate Enterprise sQ more deeply with on-premise IT infrastructure.

Enhancements to sQ Editors include: Optical Flow for high-quality slow or fast motion; improved audio handling when working with video effects; AVCHD soft mount; XAVC support; and improved shape performance. In addition, the Marco field editor also gains the same tools as the rest of Quantel's broadcast products, with the addition of an HSL keyer. The range of laptops on which Marco supports SDI has also been greatly expanded with the announcement of support for the AJA Io XT.

Elsewhere, Quantel has announced support for the AJA Io XT in its Marco field editor, and the KONA 3G video card in Pablo Rio color and finishing systems. AJA Io

Pablo Rio already supports AJA's Convid Ultra, which broadcasts in real time at 4K 60p. AJA's addition of support for Kona 3G gives its customers greater choice of I/O infrastructure and will be especially attractive to customers who currently require real-time 2K capacity. The Kona 3G card is supported on Pablo Rio 2K and 4K software-only systems and 2KO comprehensive systems.

QTube

As for QTube, Quantel's solution for everywhere production for ingestion, editing and distribution everywhere already has new tools for editing effects, new browser possibilities, greater capabilities for uploading files from anywhere.

Much more than remote editing, QTube offers the ability to ingest and play anywhere – empowering new workflows that truly bring people and places together in a flexible production environment. At BIT Broadcast, Quantel is showcasing QTube with more applications and providing users with more flexibility to design their ideal workflow layout.

QTube Edit gets advanced ingest capabilities and comprehensive effects tools. These two developments make QTube Edit a great editor for news agencies. QTube Edit can instantly work with local content and freely mix material from other locations into the edit. You can add effects and titles to create a complete package that can then be published to any broadcast location. All reproduction takes place in QTube Transformer, avoiding the transfer of large amounts of information via WAN.

QTube Browser allows every person with a web browser to access content via QTube, wherever in the world. A new development gives QTube Browser image capture capabilities. This makes it very easy for web content producers to take the images they need for their web pages. QTube Browser also supports InterSite; This allows communications managers to access content from anywhere – even live ingests – make sub-clips and collect and move it wherever needed across the WAN. Now everything can be done with a browser from anywhere.

QTube InterSite is also moving forward. Your instant workflow for editing content across multiple locations hasn't changed – what's new is an advanced level of management that allows users to have full visibility and control of the entire infrastructure. The new management level is web-based and therefore can be used from a browser anywhere.

Pablo Rio

The new software ensures that Pablo Rio continues to lead the way in file-based post-production plans by supporting even more file formats, including 4K XAVC export and DCP import, as well as the new RED SDK.
The new software also supports shaping Avid effects. The new development significantly eases the transition from Avid offline to Pablo Rio 4K color and finish corrector. For example, if the Avid editor has used DVE to resize a clip, the metadata from the DVE transfer arrives in Pablo Rio with the media, automatically resizing the clip when it is resized in Pablo Rio using 4K media.

Pablo Rio's tools also get a major boost with the slow progress of Optical Flow. Optical Flow uses advanced motion estimation techniques to produce faster and more agile slow or fast motion.

The new software also includes numerous additional enhancements that increase flexibility and performance. These include: MLT audio, AVCHD soft montage, tracking homography, better text handling, faster shape creation, drawing line updates, and better subtitling tools.
