Atresmedia increases its profit by 29.9% during the first half of 2014
It increased its Ebitda by +52.4% (60.2 million) and increased its net profit by +29.9% to 37.8 million. The group's net income grew 6.5% to 450.7 million, rising 9.1% in the second quarter.
The Atresmedia group, despite the blackout of three of its television channels (Xplora, LaSexta3 and Nitro), has been able to take advantage of the incipient improvement in the advertising market and thanks to the increase in audience in its television and radio divisions, it has increased its net income by 6.5% (to 450.7 million euros). This growth is above that experienced by the conventional media advertising market, which stood at 4.7% in the same period. In the second quarter, the rebound in Atresmedia's Net Income has been even greater (+9.1%).
The increase in income together with the maintenance of a strict expense control policy has increased the group's gross operating result (EBITDA) by 52.4% to 60.2 million euros. The consolidated profit for the first half of the year reached 37.8 million euros, which represents a growth of 29.9%.
Hearings
Despite the blackout of Xplora, laSexta3 and Nitro, the group's television division has managed to increase its screen share by 0.4 points to reach 28.8%. Likewise, it is the group most followed by viewers in the period with the highest consumption and advertising investment, prime time, both in global audience (29.4%) and in commercial target (33%), the preferred by advertisers.
The two main channels of Atresmedia Televisión have registered significant growth. Antena 3 reaches a share of 13.7%, which is 0.6 percentage points more than in the same period of 2013 and remains the leader in the appreciated commercial target (13.9%). LaSexta, for its part, grew almost one point (0.9 points) and achieved an average audience of 6.9%, remaining above its main competitor, Cuatro.
After these increases, Atresmedia Televisión's accumulated net income as of June amounts to 400.3 million euros, which represents an increase of 6.5%, well above the 5.7% recorded by the TV advertising market. The advertising share of the channel group in said market stands at 42.6%.
Atresmedia TV, which has maintained strict control of programming expenses, reducing them by 1% during the second quarter of the year, has obtained an EBITDA of 48.4 million euros, which represents a growth of 40.3%.
Atresmedia Radio continues to add listeners and consolidate its leading position in the radio market. The division reaches an audience of more than 4.8 million listeners according to the latest EGM. Onda Cero, with an average of 2.6 million listeners, and ending the season with 2.7 million, remains solidly in second place in the ranking of generalist channels. Europa FM, with over 2 million listeners, does not stop growing and remains the third channel in the topics section. The new Melodía FM formula has emerged with great success and obtains excellent data with 212,000 listeners.
With these data, Atresmedia Radio's net income in the first half reached 42.5 million euros, 6.2% more than in the same period of 2013 and double the growth experienced by the radio advertising market (+3.1%). For its part, EBITDA amounts to 7.7 million euros (+4.4%).
The first half of 2014 is once again very positive for Atresmedia Digital with a new maximum of 16.6 million unique monthly users on average, which represents a growth of 47.9%. For its part, Atresmedia Cine has obtained numerous recognitions for its productions at the Signis and Feroz Awards and internationally at the New York Children's Festival and the Platino Awards.
