The Mexican 'Güeros', by director Alonso Ruizpalacios, Horizontes Latinos Award in San Sebastián
The Horizontes Latinos jury also awarded two special mentions to the Colombian film 'Gente de bien' by Franco Lolli and the Argentine film 'Ciencias naturales', by Matias Lucchesi.
The Mexican movie Güeros, by director Alonso Ruizpalacios, managed to win the “Horizontes Latinos” award at the 62nd edition of the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
The film, shot in black and white and which tells the story of four young people and their journey through Mexico City in search of a former rock star, won the award "for the formal daring of its cinematographic language and for the interpretation" of its four protagonists, the official statement explained.
“Thank you to everyone who made this film, to each one of those who got on this old Atlantic with us,” said Ruizpalacios when collecting the award on the stage of the Kursaal in San Sebastián.
The Horizontes Latinos jury also awarded two special mentions to the Colombian film Gente de bien by Franco Lolli for “showing with great sensitivity that there are good people in different social classes even though coexistence between them is very difficult,” and to the Argentine film Ciencias naturales, by Matias Lucchesi, for “the tenderness with which it tells its story.”
