The 38th Sao Paulo International Film Festival will host a meeting between film professionals in Spain and Brazil from October 23 to 25 in order to promote future collaborations and stimulate international co-production.

Focus SpainWithin the framework of the 38th Sao Paulo International Film Festival, the Spanish-Brazilian Film Meeting will take place from October 23 to 25. The objective of this event is to bring together professionals in the film sector from both countries to promote future collaborations and stimulate international co-production among participants, while promoting knowledge of Spanish cinema in Brazil.

The Spanish-Brazilian Film Meeting is an initiative of the State Secretariat of Culture, through the ICAA (Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts) and the General Directorate of Policy, Cultural and Book Industries, and in collaboration with ANCINE (Agencia Nacional do Cinema do Brasil) and Cinema Do Brasil. This event has the support of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and its PICE Mobility Program (Program for the Internationalization of Spanish Culture).

Among the activities to be developed have been scheduled: the Co-production Meeting, organized through ICAA, FAPAE and ICEX together with Cinema do Brasil, which will have the participation of 10 Spanish producers, and another 10 Brazilian producers and the Distribution Meeting, organized by the ICAA, SGAE Foundation and Cinema do Brasil, in which 20 Brazilian distributors and 2 Spanish sales agents will participate.

Among the programming planned for said Meeting, highlights include the Contemporary Spanish Film Show: Focus Spain, organized by the ICAA, the SGAE Foundation and the Sao Paulo Mostra itself, which includes it as another section of its film festival. The selection of titles was made through the SGAE Foundation and the Mostra, in total it brings together 22 feature films and 8 shorts, which will be screened throughout the entire Mostra. The series shows the most recent of our cinematography, where new filmmakers and already established directors exhibit their work; Many of these films have already been awarded at other festivals, both Spanish and international.

Retrospectives of Erice and Almodóvar

Parallel to the exhibition of this cycle, there is also, thanks to the collaboration of the General Directorate of Policies, Cultural and Book Industries, a second cycle dedicated to author cinema, entitled: Margins, and which revolves around the proposals of young Spanish directors.

To these initiatives is also added the programming of the Mostra itself, which includes two retrospectives dedicated to two of our most established directors: Pedro Almodóvar and Víctor Erice. Finally, complementing Spain's participation in the Mostra is the exhibition Mexico photographed by Luis Buñuel, which has been coordinated by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and the Spanish Film Library, which together with the Brazilian Cinemateca, will offer a selection of old films belonging to their collections, and recently restored.
