The URSA BlackMagic camera now allows 80 fps to be recorded.

The new update offers 4K format recording at 80 fps, compression of RAW files (3: 1), framing guides, slow camera playback, CFAST card formatting and drop -down menus, among other performance.

Blackmagic Design Today Camera 1.9.9 has launched, an important update that includes several innovative functions for the URSA digital cinematographic camera that the company manufactures. This new version was developed with the collaboration of world -class filmmakers who use this model to make high -end productions.

Among the most advanced functionalities, the new menu is highlighted that allows you to select different image frequencies with a higher speed option for URSA models. That is, the cadence of filming is increased to 80 frames per second, which in turn improves the capture of images in slow chamber and the fluidity in the shots.

The image frequency configuration in the URSA camera was modified, so that the selected setting setting is not limited by the reproduction speed. As a result, users can choose the frame speed to which a project will be carried out, for example 24 FPS for the filming of a feature film, and then independently establish the image frequency for recording with options from 5 to 80 fps.

The advantage of this function is that you can capture shots in slow or fast camera, although all recorded files fit the image frequency for video, and the speed of the movement can be seen when you see the contents. In this way, it is possible to reproduce clips from the camera projecting the same aspect that would be obtained in the timeline of a professional editing program.

When filming at high frequencies for feature films or television ads, where the quality of the image is crucial, this update offers a new 12 -bit compressed RAW Cinemadng format in a 3: 1 ratio. This new provision allows you to record RAW files that occupy a third of the space required by files of the same type without compression, thus providing a double storage capacity on a CFAST card of equal size.

The RAW format with compression 3: 1 admits the capture of a greater number of frames per second on CFAST cards taking advantage of all the advantages of this type of files that allow access to the highest quality of the images captured by the camera sensor by processing them in editing programs such as Davinci Resolve.

New benefits

Likewise, this update provides the possibility of formating CFAST cards directly from the camera during recording, so it is not necessary to resort to a computer equipment for this purpose. Unlike card preparation from a equipment, the URSA model technically analyzes the storage structure in the memory of these recording supports and optimizes formatting in order to obtain a higher performance when recording digital cinematographic material in real time. This means that the cards formatted from the camera offer better benefits.

On the other hand, this new update also incorporates multiple changes in the user interface, including a new options panel that allows you to select the function to format units and modify other adjustments. The interface also has drop -down menus that offer the user the possibility of accessing a more extensive list of settings just by sliding the finger in the vertical direction on the touch screen, a characteristic of utmost importance for a camera with so many functions that the filmmaker can customize.

Within the innovative functions of this version, the framing guides are included on the screen that allow to visualize in the folding monitor a variety of common appearance for feature films such as 2.35: 1, 1.85: 1, among others. These guides appear as translucent overlaps and the user can adjust opacity. Additional guides can also be activated to facilitate framing.
