VSN celebrates 25 years of success with its distribution channel, looking to the future with optimism
With a full house of attendees, VSN brought together its distributors and integrators at NAB 2015 in a meeting in which it reviewed the company's achievements in its first twenty-five years of life, and announced the expansion of its portfolio of solutions and the business perspectives for the coming years.
At the start of this NAB 2015, VSN has presented at the Bally's hotel in Las Vegas to distributors and integrators the company's achievements in its first twenty-five years of life, the expansion of its solutions portfolio and the business prospects for the coming years.
Jordi Capdevila, marketing director of VSN, opened this meeting by ensuring that “the
Television has changed more in five years than in the first fifty. Now, new challenges arise, such as reaching all consumers and all screens so that the user can access the content whenever they want. This is an aspect in which cloud distribution will play a determining role.”
Capdevila has also reviewed the main trends in an industry marked by multiplatform distribution, IP networks, 4K, the cloud, optimized video compression, video on demand and workflow automation. "File workflows have been the main trend in recent years. Now, the challenge is to gain efficiency with the same resources," he assured.
Other projects worth highlighting are Rio Grande do Sur (Brazil), the first time that Director, Livecom and Multicom control the EVS XT Nano; Telesur (Ecuador), a PAM with Avid and Premier; CorTV, first project with Sony ODS; Amarin (Thailand) first project with AVC Intra 100 (MXF) format with the possibility of direct publication to YouTube, Facebook and Twitter; Spring News (Thailand). first integration of MAM with QC system (Baton); Dorna (Spain), an MCR together with DVS and first IP integration with Multichannel and Trio from Vizrt for graphics; Roya Tv (Jordan), first client to migrate from Sharer and Archivo3 to VSNExplorer with VSNMigration (automated migration); and Mediacloud (South Africa), a MAM over the customer's proprietary fiber network.
So far this year, VSN has carried out the second phase of the Telesur project, expanding the system with the first integration with iNews with several studies and a duplicate file in ODS and LTO library. In Hungary, ATV has represented the first integration of VSN with Octopus and with the Probel WS-32 mixer for MCR. The Russian CTC has opted for VSN BPM with a variety of BPs, integration with Vantage, BroadView and Digimetrics. Finally, review the case of Telepacífico, where VSN has implemented a PAM with Cerify for quality control
VSN is currently immersed in a project on Gibraltar television (GBC), in the first integration of Ross Inception with MAM and Livecom.
But apart from broadcast projects, VSN has found an excellent niche for its solutions in corporate environments. To cite a few examples, the case of Bimbo in Mexico stands out (they use the content in the MAM to edit in Davinci, Final Cut and Adobe Premiere), that of Saudi Airlines (where it has integrated its corporate MAM) or Real Madrid TV, where an MCR system has been implemented with Multicom and CreaTv (in turn integrated with Vizrt). This system allows you to automatically upload content from the Vizrt MAM to the K2 broadcast servers using the VSN BPM.
As evident in all these examples, VSN has no problem integrating its systems with third parties.
New VSNExplorer features
At NAB 2015, VSN presents VSNExplores BI that now allows you to extract reports and statistics from any type of data, consider the assets that each journalist or editor creates, or monitor what processes are executed.
VSNExplorer also launches a new interface, an approach such as decentralized MAM. He
UMP protocol, developed by VSN, allows acceleration of transfer, download and transcoding while ingesting, with distributed storage for redundancy, possibility of executing actions on the MAM from any location.
On the other hand, VSN has integrated VSNLogger with VSMNExplorer for sports and live events, AS-11 ingestion and distribution, integration with social networks and with quality control systems such as Baton, Cerify or Aurora.
As for VSNLivecom, it should be noted that it now allows integration with Inception, iNews and Octopus.
NAB 2015 is also the framework in which VSNweb Tv, a new live streaming and VOD platform, debuts. Completely in the cloud, it allows transcoding, creation and customization of the player, blocking content by geolocation, ad server, content monetization, and multiple statistics on demand.
Looking to the future
With a full house of attendees, the president and CEO of VSN, Jordi Utiel, took advantage of this meeting with his distribution channel to present the lines that will mark VSN's Strategic Plan between now and 2018.
Discontinuing non-competitive products while closing agreements with third parties to offer substitute solutions, and investing in MAM/PBPM/PAM and highly competitive solutions are two of the pillars of the strategy for the future.
VSN also intends to develop new online SaaS solutions for the new CreaTv platform. Utiel has emphasized the role that R&D plays in driving the company forward, as well as the close collaboration with universities and technology centers in this line. The
Automatic self-cataloging and text prediction on social networks… are just two examples of the fruit that this collaboration will bear in the near future.
VSN has closed this meeting of distributors and members by presenting their awards to the distribution channel as well as some commemorative plaques on the occasion of the company's 25th anniversary.
