Disney and Alibaba join forces to offer OTT content in China
The new OTT service offers video and audio over the Internet without the mediation of a multiple system operator in the control or distribution of content
Alibaba and Disney have launched an Internet television service that offers Disney and Pixar entertainment content to Chinese consumers as well as a ticket reservation system for Disney parks.
The new OTT service offers video and audio over the Internet without the mediation of a multiple system operator in the control or distribution of content. The service, DisneyLife, is offered through a Mickey Mouse-shaped set-top box and television.
This device is intended for the little ones, being able to select the content through settings based on the age of the children, being able to limit the time they watch television.
Additionally, users will be able to plan their visit to Disneyland Hong Kong and Shanghai Disney Resort when they open in 2016, as well as access other Disney products. All content and services are offered by Wasu Media Network, an Internet TV provider backed by Alibaba Chairman Jack Ma.
Luke Kang, general manager of Walt Disney in China, said: "Disney and Alibaba share an ambition to exceed the expectations of our audience. DisneyLife connects us directly with China's digital population and offers millions of children and families the opportunity to explore and interact with Disney."
