The awards, which this year celebrate their 61st edition, will be presented on April 24 in Barcelona.

The RNE Sant Jordi Cinematography Awards 2017 will award Juliet y Carol with the Roses of Sant Jordi, awards that are decided by popular vote of Ràdio 4 listeners. They add to the list of winners of this 61st edition, in which they appear as best Spanish film The next skin by Isaki Lacuesta and Isa Campo and as best first film Late for anger by Raúl Arévalo.

The Rosa de Sant Jordi for the best Spanish film goes to Juliet, directed by Pedro Almodóvar and participated by RTVE. She was chosen by the Film Academy to represent Spain at the Oscars; competed for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival; and won the Goya award for best actress for Emma Suárez, also winner of the gold medal from the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos for this role.

The Rose for best foreign film has gone to Carol, a British-American film directed by Todd Haynes, based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith, and starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, who won the Palme d'Or for best actress.

61st edition of the Sant Jordi Awards

The Roses of Sant Jordi join the list of winners of the 2017 RNE Sant Jordi Cinematography Awards, where they stand out as best Spanish film The next skin by Isaki Lacuesta and Isa Campo, and as the best debut Late for anger by Raúl Arévalo, owned by RTVE.

Emma Suarez (Juliet y The next skin) and Luis Callejo (Late for anger), have been considered best actress and best Spanish actor.

In the international section, Elle, by Paul Verhoeven, has won the award for best foreign film. Adam Driver by Paterson and Amy Adams for the arrival y nocturnal animals, have been chosen best actor and actress in foreign films.

The jury, chaired by RNE film journalist Conxita Casanovas, brings together the most representative critics and specialists of the seventh art in the media. The awards, which this year celebrate their 61st edition, will be presented on April 24 in Barcelona. Beforehand, the award for an outstanding professional career in the world of cinema will be announced, as well as the Sant Jordi Award for Industry in collaboration with the Generalitat of Catalonia.
