EVS Launches XStore Storage System Integrating Harmonic's Mediagrid
The high-performance nearline platform simplifies the storage offering with a flexible unified system.
EVS y Harmonic have reached an OEM agreement that will allow the Belgian company to adopt the Harmonic MediaGrid system as part of its XStore nearline storage platform. This solution has been designed for use in studios, broadcast centers and main broadcast installations.
Leveraging Harmonic's MediaGrid shared storage system, EVS has unified its three XStore products into a single, highly flexible storage platform.
Sebastien Maindiaux, product director at EVS, assures that "with this new generation of
This nearline platform benefits from a fully redundant technical architecture and comes in various configurations starting with six RUs with redundant and highly available metadata servers and capacity of 28TB (or 500 hours of HD content). When larger capacities are needed, XStore can scale up to petabytes using four or five RU chassis with capacity up to 500TB. It is noteworthy that by minimizing rack space your users will achieve significant space savings.
The new XStore platform is designed as a unified storage infrastructure that delivers the high performance and reliability expected in any EVS-based production ecosystem.
Benoit Quirynen, vice president of product and marketing at EVS, highlights that "this new storage offering will become a key part of any live and near-live infrastructure, allowing creative production teams to have immediate access to all material through XStore. Our development experts chose Harmonic's MediaGrid technology because it is not only able to cope with the intensity of this type of production but also because it allows users easy management of storage capacity."
The XStore system will be rolled out at a number of venues, including several global sporting events throughout 2018. One of the first public demonstrations of the system will already be seen at IBC 2017, where the in-house channel, IBC TV, will use it for the production of live content throughout the show.
