NDR integrates Editshare storage into its studios in Tokyo, Stockholm, Singapore and Beijing
Designed and deployed by EditShare business partner MoovIT, it offers advanced automation and integration with HelmutFX's new enterprise service bus (ESB) solution and Adobe Premiere Pro CC, simplifying asset tracking and migration from acquisition to archive.
German ARD broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) has implemented XStream EFS shared storage EditShare and media management (MAM) Flow in its foreign studios in Tokyo, Stockholm, Singapore and Beijing. The EditShare-powered workflow, designed and deployed by EditShare business partner MoovIT, offers advanced automation and integration with HelmutFX's new enterprise service bus (ESB) solution and Adobe Premiere Pro CC, simplifying asset tracking and migration from acquisition to archive.
MoovIT, a broadcast workflow expert, developed HelmutFX specifically for NDR. “NDR required a platform that would automate many repetitive tasks while supporting much faster switching of media packages as well as better integration with its Adobe Premiere CC editors,” says David Merzenich of MoovIT. "We've leveraged the Flow API to integrate HelmutFX ESB with EditShare solutions. This has allowed us to deeply automate everything from importing clips to adding metadata to triggering projects in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. NDR journalists never have to leave the Premiere Pro interface. HelmutFX handles administrative tasks while, in the background, Flow automatically handles transcoding, project setup, file synchronization, and even creating media spaces on the platform. EditShare shared storage, providing journalists with the benefits of media asset management and shared storage,” he adds.
The automated workflow eliminates repetitive manual tasks and with them, errors such as copying files to incorrect media spaces or using non-standard metadata indexing. MoovIT developers leveraged the EditShare Stream API to create extensions that handle metadata templates, ingest files, and manage the AME processing server.
API de Flow
Howard Twine, Director of Software Strategy, EditShare adds, "The Flow API is very easy to work with. The level of integration and automation our partners can achieve with applications like Adobe Premiere and HelmutFX is extensive. In NDR specifically, MoovIT has been able to automate the movement of content exactly how NDR wants it from the moment it is ingested on the server until it reaches the NDR file and returns to production. Taking it a step further, MoovIT leveraged the Flow API to automating the movement of media to the point that NDR journalists only have to access Adobe Premiere and have their projects already created in the appropriate media spaces and tagged accordingly. They only focus on creating the story itself, with EditShare Flow and XStream EFS working together with HelmutFX.
Thanks to a nearly identical workflow and advanced automation between studios, professionals can move flexibly between different sites without having to acclimatize or train on a new system configuration.
The NDR workflow will be demonstrated at the EditCare booth at IBC 2017 (7.C27).
