Editshare Field 2: high-performance portable storage
This new version of its previous Field system features multimedia content management capabilities, file ingestion, advanced project sharing/bin locking, and archiving capabilities.
EditShare now has a new next-generation portable storage solution with multimedia content management capabilities.
At IBC, Editshare has presented its new Field 2 fully portable shared storage solution. This new version of its previous Field system features multimedia content management capabilities, file ingestion, advanced project sharing/bin locking and archiving capabilities in a robust, compact, high-performance all-in-one chassis designed for both mobile and studio productions.
Andy Liebman, founder and CEO of EditShare, emphasizes that "the new design of the Field 2 is even lighter and more robust than its predecessor, with dimensions that meet the most demanding carry-on restrictions of most airlines. Along with the content management, project sharing and archiving capabilities of EditShare, Field 2 offers editors a complete end-to-end tapeless workflow in a small device with tools to collaborate with other editors on the go. Whether Whether you're shooting a movie on location or an event in an ENG truck, or in a remote office, Field 2 gives you the latest editing and production capabilities for a more efficient workflow.”
Field 2 has all the features of the Xstream and Energy systems, including the same disk Raid protection, both media and project sharing, support for Final Cut, Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro and lightowrks. Additionally, through the Edithsare Sync Tools it is possible to synchronize the Field 2 Media with another Editshare server remotely through a simple Internet connection.
Main features
- Two Flow Browse licenses (two concurrent users) plus one File Ingest license.
- Ark Tape license for 10 tapes
- 8-port Raid card. If configured with 3.5 disks, it would include 4 internal and 4 external ports, therefore an additional raid card would not be necessary to add an expansion chassis and expand storage. If configured with 2.5 drives, all 8 ports would be internal so an expansion chassis would need an additional raid card to be added.
- Maximum performance. In a Raid of 4 3.5-inch drives, it can support performance of eight streams of ProRes HQ or DnxHD 220 or 24 streams of 25 Mbit video such as DV25 or XDCAM-EX 25. A Field of eight 2.5-inch 10K SAS drives provides approximately a twofold increase in performance. A Field of 8 2.5-inch SSDs provides approximately six times the increase.
- Ease of maintenance: thanks to a removable tray you can easily access the different components such as CPU, RAM, etc., by disconnecting a couple of cables from the power supply you can make any quick changes in case of system failure.
- Raid storage options – master and expansion chassis
- Up to 10 more 1Gb Ethernet connections, achieving a total of 14 connections
- It allows you to add a 10Gb card to connect the Field 2 to a switch, a SAS card to connect an Ark tape library or a basic LTO reader or a dual capture card with two SDI channels, in formats such as XDCAM-EX35, DnxHD, DVCProHD,... to record directly to the Field2 storage.
