Interoute will be the supplier of the fiber connection on which the new portal online of the Vatican Communications Secretariat. This new portal integrates many different communication channels (radio, TV and publications) into a single interface, which testifies to the Church's determined commitment to fully enter the modern digital world.

The new website will allow users to easily find the desired information, providing them with multimedia content in different languages from all types of devices. Francesco Masci, Head of the Technology Department of the Holy See Communications Secretariat (SPC), comments that "the rethinking of the Holy See's communications system has meant an important technological change, in response to the fusion between the online world, broadcasting and the traditional publishing environment. In addition to the news portal, we plan to launch other services, and we are also considering other projects to distribute quality multimedia content directly to users, such as documentaries or other important productions. Interoute's new fiber network is the technological base “which will allow us to launch this cutting-edge project.”

Direct fiber access to the backbone network is the fundamental technological link that makes this ambitious project possible, as evidenced by the general name of the project, 'Backbone'. Interoute is the owner operator of a next generation network covering more than 72,000 route kilometers throughout Europe. The optical fiber provided by Interoute is the key technological solution on which the digital transformation that the Vatican has set as an objective in its new communications strategy will be undertaken, due to its security, high capacity, scalability and high performance, which will guarantee the best possible experience for consumers of the Vatican's content, especially for the audiovisual type that involves intensive consumption of bandwidth, since Interoute's optical fiber allows faster and more fluid data transmission and offers greater recovery capacity over long periods of time. distances.

The project has been characterized by close collaboration between the Secretariat of Communications of the Holy See (SPC) and Interoute, with the aim of finding the best solutions in especially complicated conditions, such as, for example, the laying of cables in one of the places of greatest religious, cultural and artistic importance in the world, such as Vatican City.

Simone Bonannini, Vice President of the Mediterranean Region, Central and Eastern Europe (EEC), Middle East and Africa, of Interoute, adds that "we are honored to be able to contribute to the Secretariat of Communications of the Holy See all the experience that we have accumulated over several decades. Interoute has built the pan-European backbone infrastructure that is driving the digital transformation of many organizations around the world. Having deployed its entire cabling infrastructure in Europe has provided Interoute with the fundamental knowledge and capacity to undertake this unique project, respecting the delivery times and the limitations imposed by the cultural and artistic heritage of this important site.”
